"Do not disconnect" message on Ipod

 I am working on a project where I had to detect and sync Ipod with a
linux software.

 I am facing one problem when I connect Ipod to the linux machine. Ipod
displays a "Do not disconnect" message and Ipod allows nothing else
to do with it.

 One reason behind this Ipod's behaviour may be that Ipod is searching for
Itunes software and trying to import songs from it and there is no Itunes
for Linux.

 My question is : "Will it allow me to read/write data/songs from Ipod
while it displays "Do not disconnect" message ?

That 'Do not disconnect' message is just a way to tell you that the hard
drive would be in use and you could lose data if you disconnect it. From
the computer point of view, you can write whatever you want at that
point.

To remove that message, execute the 'eject' command instead of just
unmount the partition.
