"Xfce-based Distributions" page and Gentoo Linux

Hello!

I noticed that the "Xfce-Based Distributions" page [1] does not list
Gentoo [2], yet.  Just like Lunar Linux, Gentoo has no
native/default desktop environment: each user chooses fir himself.

Would be cool to have Gentoo listed on that page.  The DistroWatch page
about Gentoo is up here [3].

Please let me know if I can help out with anything to speed up the process.

Thanks for listening,

Sebastian

Gentoo won't be added. If you've read the text next to Lunar: all our
servers are Lunar powered, so in our case, Lunar is more special then
all other distros.

lol Are you serious, afraid of competition or what? :) That's an
insanely biased and unreasonable explanation for not listing Gentoo.

Users are gonna try a few things and most new comers that actually read
that page would more then likely still choose Lunar vs Gentoo with the
description for Lunar, which is understandable and reasonable being a
few devs use it and *.xfce.org runs on it, but refusing to list
Gentoo based on that just makes diddly for sense... sounds like
something from the closed source world imo :p

btw, atleast 1 _core_ Xfce developer uses Gentoo, big
deal!

Hello,

This sounds a bit offensive Nick ;) I agree that Lunar has a special
position because it powers our servers, but still the Gentoo guys put a
lot of efforts to provide a nice Xfce experience so refusing to add them
to the list like this can be insulting (I don't use gentoo at all and
never did, so I'm just stating this based on facts).

I'm about to update that page heavily and to redesign its look, some
outdated distros will get out of the list, some might make it in. I'll
consider adding Gentoo at that time, but please don't start a troll
thread on distros guys!

Enjoy your sunday,

Jérôme

We always had the policy distros that ship with Xfce only (on the
default install) + Lunar. Gentoo is nothing more special then a lot of
other distros, and i'm pretty sure we get a lot more feedback and bugs
from Debian and Fedora, those are not on the list too. Nothing
offensive about that, if you add all distros that ship with Xfce you
can also redirect to
http://distrowatch.com/search.php?pkg=xfce&pkgver=4.6#pkgsearch.

If you don't want to list Lunar, then put it outside the distros list,
but it really deserves some credit on the website.

I never said Lunar should not be on the list. I said it should because
it powers our servers and a lot of Xfce devs use it and it thus has a
good Xfce support.

Cheers,

Jérôme

We can move it to the bottom right corner in that case, near SF and
Oscillation, that's clever isn't it?

What about having a list of XFCE dedicated distributions, then a list of XFCE dedicated LiveCDs, then a list of more general distributions with an XFCE team / XFCE LiveCD?

This would allow users to know about more distros who do offer XFCE, and would still highlight the distros primarily thought for XFCE.

I think this would be a solution that I would hope will satisfy
everyone in question and it will also offer more information to users.

Random side note: it might also be useful to have a snippet out next
to the liveCDs that are installable and/or can be used as a full out
desktop post install so users can differentiate between those
(example: Fedora Xfce Spin)
