Dear Ultima Thule listener,
You may have noticed that we have not updated our podcasts for the past 6
weeks.
This is due to an impending relocation of our website to a new, improved web
hosting provider.
Ultima Thule has been making available podcasts of our weekly broadcasts
since May 2005; we were in fact among first radio shows to be podcast
anywhere in the world.
In January 2009 we doubled your weekly dose of Thule, by progressively
releasing available programmes from our 20+ year archive as part of our
podcast feed.
As a consequence our global audience has grown to such a phenomenal extent
that our current web hosting provider is no longer able to handle the
traffic volumes that we're generating.
We have identified an alternative provider, who is capable of sustaining our
growth well into the future, and are in the process of relocating our site
and associated mp3 programme archive to them - however this is a very
time-consuming process, and as UT is an entirely not-for-profit,
volunteer-run enterprise, we cannot achieve this without some disruption to
our service.
It's also a very expensive process, which will increase our hosting costs
tenfold.
Our service with our current provider will terminate at midnight Australian
Eastern Summer Time on 30 October 2009, and it is likely that our website
(and email) may be completely offline for up to 2 weeks after that date,
while we complete the transition to our new provider.
When we return, the current backlog of podcasts will be fully updated.
During our period offline I would ask you to consider making a financial
contribution to Ultima Thule, to show your appreciation for the many years
worth of free entertainment that we've provided you to date, and to help us
defray the significant increase in hosting costs we will now be incurring in
order to continue that tradition into the future.
