(job) IELTS Examiners

I enjoy teaching at mid-level universities, but I need to start making more money sometime soon. Doing IELTS work on the weekends would be ideal. I've already checked into it and found that I'm not qualified, but I'm considering courses now. That's a topic for my next post.

What I'd like to ask you is how much money I can expect to make as an IELTS examiner. Assuming that I spend US $3,000 total to get a CELTA or TEFL certificate, will I be able to make that amount back in a year or less? I'll be living in Nanning, and there is just one IELTS exam a month here, I'm told. I guess it's hard to say without knowing how many other IELTS examiners there are in Nanning, but I wonder if I could work every month here, and then once a month for an IELTS exam in another city.

Could I get a lot of work in the summer?

Just wondering how long it would take me to make up the cost of being certified and if it's worth it. My estimate is that it would take a year to make up US $3,000 and if that is true, then it would be worth it to get a CELTA or TESOL certificate.

TIA for any responses,

Nancy in Nanning

Hi Nancy ..... from the "other Nancy". Good to hear from you on these lists.

If I remember correctly from our meeting for dinner one night in Xian, aren't you a former US educated/certified/experienced teacher? Are you really finding this background doesn't qualify you?
