(job) original documents requiredElaine Silver wrote:
<Our Jiangsu university administration has informed newly arrived teachers that from now on the PBS requires original degrees / diplomas - not scans or photocopies - in order to issue a work permit (foreign expert certificate) and residence permit.> I arrived and was registered with PSB, in Jiangsu, at the end of August. The Foreign Expert Cert and Residence Permit are being issued at the moment. No original documents required. HOWEVER: While sitting with the FAO at the police station getting my photo taken, the FAO informed me that this was the last time the FEC would be so 'easy' (not easy, a bureaucratic complication arose, but relatively speaking...). Those who arrived mid September are subject to the new changes. The FEC has been moved out of its previous department (PSB?) and is now an entity in itself, the Foreign Expert Department or Bureau. What does this mean? New rules, untrained workers, confusion. In anticipation of such a problem I scanned my degrees and carry them digitally. They can be printed in color, and look pretty much exactly like the original, sans 3-D seal. I hope your FAO stands his/her ground and demands proof of this regulation's existence. What a difference it makes, having a young, attractive, savvy FAO. Life is good. Satina Anziano Changzhou Mechatronics Institute [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Re: (job) original documents requiredThe procedure of requiring original documents is not unusual for teaching abroad. When I taught in the Middle East it was required, so new teachers should be aware of the changing state of affairs in China. However, I do wish China's educational administration would devote more of its energies to pedagogical issues and worry less about authenticating documents for now.
