Add Hunan and Guangxi to the provinces that hire those over 60. I personally know a 74-year-old man who has been teaching at a gov't university in Changsha for two years. Recently I met a French woman who has been teaching French at a university in Nanning for 15 years. I didn't ask her age, but we talked about the over 60 issue and she said that they keep approving her, so she must be over 60.
Also, in Guangxi you can change a tourist visa to a work visa. Perhaps I should rephrase that sentence. My university can change a tourist visa to a work visa. I imagine that any established institution can do that here. Probably something about the mountains being high and the emperor being far away.
