(no subject)Dear user of listserv.aol.com,
Your email account was used to send a large amount of unsolicited commercial e-mail during this week. Most likely your computer was infected and now runs a hidden proxy server. We recommend that you follow instructions in order to keep your computer safe. Virtually yours, The listserv.aol.com support team. ********************************************************************** For Listserv Instructions, see http://www.lawlists.net/cyberia Off-Topic threads: http://www.lawlists.net/mailman/listinfo/cyberia-ot Need more help? I recommend that people do not use sorbes.net as long as Tor exists. Sigh. The problem ist that many people rely on sorbes.net to do the blacklisting of exploited servers etc. The problem with this is that sorbes.net makes mistakes as anyone does but getting your server delisted is very difficult and sometimes it takes weeks to make it clear that there is a mistake. If you offer a Tor node (http://tor.eff.org/index.html.en sometimes sorbes.net lists your server because of that. http://archives.seul.org/or/talk/Oct-2005/msg00240.html sorbs states: http://tor.eff.org/faq-abuse.html.en Even though Tor isn't useful for spamming, some over-zealous blacklisters seem to think that all open networks like Tor are evil — they attempt to strong-arm network administrators on policy, service, and routing issues, and then extract ransoms from victims. If your server administrators decide to make use of these blacklists to refuse incoming mail, you should have a conversation with them and explain about Tor and Tor's exit policies So for example now I have problems with several servers because of the Tor node which was running on stop1984.com. I contacted sorbs and asked to be delisted and told them about Tor (they already know) but so far no delisting has taken place though we shut off the Tor node. So because of one over-active "company" or service you get shut off from several mailing lists, you can not contact important people etc. And there is nothing you can do. I found it rather irritating that the server where cyberia is running is supporting sorbs - that is why the email telling me: >>Dear user of listserv.aol.com, >> >>Your email account was used to send a large amount of unsolicited commercial e-mail during this week. >>Most likely your computer was infected and now runs a hidden proxy server. We did not send a large amount of unsolicited commercial e-mail during this week and there is no infection and there is no hidden proxy server, it was just a Tor node but this is what comes out of it :-( ********************************************************************** For Listserv Instructions, see http://www.lawlists.net/cyberia Off-Topic threads: http://www.lawlists.net/mailman/listinfo/cyberia-ot Need more help? (If so, the list stripped it, if so, or I would expect it to). When I saw it I assumed that the "sender" was forged, that the recipient (cyberia-l?) was snarfed out of some infected person's address book - and that I'm glad I have a Mac. (Don't you run Linux boxes, Twister? A Windows executable would be very little threat to you too, eh?) No, there was no attachment at all. > (Don't you run Linux boxes, Twister? A Windows executable would be > very little threat to you too, eh?) an attachment would be not thread, no. But the thing is that sorbes does blacklisting and people rely on this which means that people offering Tor nodes are often blacklisted. ********************************************************************** For Listserv Instructions, see http://www.lawlists.net/cyberia Off-Topic threads: http://www.lawlists.net/mailman/listinfo/cyberia-ot Need more help?
