Meeting Description:

English education has changed dramatically over the past decade, be it in language policy such as ELF (English as a Lingua Franca) and EIL (English as  an International Language), in teaching purpose such as EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) and ESP (English for Specific Purposes), or in teaching mode such as CMC (Computer-mediated Communication) and SALC (Self-access Language Center).
While many students, teachers and administrators are still struggling to fully absorb and implement those changes required by constantly evolving societies and globalized markets and afforded by sophisticated technologies and newly forged synergies, new developments are looming on the horizon. It is thus the purpose of this conference to attempt a critical survey of the current state of ELT across its subdisciplines, identify promising concepts, practices and tools, and sketch out the road ahead that needs to be charted in order to truly prepare the learner for challenges and opportunities that will present themselves in the years to come.

Second Call for Papers
Extended submission deadline: November 30, 2009
Notification of acceptance: by December 31, 2009

We invite researchers and practitioners to submit proposals in the following areas of ELT:

World Englishes, Intercultural Communication, Computer Assisted Language Learning, Testing Evaluation and Assessment, Teacher Training and Professional Development, English for Specific Purposes, English Medium Instruction, Curriculum Development, Materials Development, Learner Autonomy, Classroom Research, Classroom Practice, Program Management

Proposal Types
Papers (20min): Report on some recent unpublished research relevant to one of the strands of the conference
Posters (60min): Report on some work in progress related to one of the strands of the conference
Workshop (45min): Demonstration of some teaching, research or administrative tool, technique or process

Proposal Format
Title: A maximum of 10 words that summarizes the main idea of your presentation proposal type: Paper, poster or workshop

Abstract: A maximum of 300 words. Abstracts will be evaluated by the scientific committee based on relevance to the strand, originality of approach, clarity of purpose, organizational strength, and contribution to the field.

Summary: A maximum of 50 words, proof-read, ready to be published in the conference brochure.

Strand: One strand only which best describes the focus and content of your presentation

Technical requirements: Please let us know if you need anything beyond a digital projector.

Bio: In a separate attachment, please submit a 50 word bio for each presenter.

Proposal submission guidelines: Only one proposal may be submitted by any one presenter. The proposal must conform to the guidelines specified below and reach the conference secretariat by the published deadline.

Proposal deadline: November 30, 2009, 11:59pm Beijing time. Notification of acceptance will be sent out by the end of December.
