students in Beijing told me there is an oral test but only those with the
highest grades/results are invited to take it.
I imagine it's an extra qual for those who want to prove how good they
are, like one of mine who passed CET6 while at high school.

I'll email her and ask if how it's done.

My comment:
that would definitely be interesting to know about. I have heard of this in theory and have never met any student who took a TEM oral English test. I guess that would be examined by Chinese teachers anyway and therefore not necessarily up to international standards, perhaps... I wait with (almost) bated breath...

My comment:
Yes I would say so especially when we are talking about teaching in different areas in different kinds of institutions, kindergarten, primary, junior high, middle school or university level, to kids at different levels. And English majors or non-majors?
