For an advanced reading class, I took all the vocabulary exercises in the book and structured them as online self-correcting quizzes in Moodle. I had to generate some code (that I got from another website) as I wanted to create cloze passages in some cases.
The sentences/definitions/etc appeared in random order, so you got the same questions, but in a different order each time.
Students had to have a certain score in order to get credit for the quiz, but could take the quiz over and over to get the score with no penalty.
I told them they could confer with each other, and because the exercises were not easy, they often did. I did suggest to them that they would learn more if they tried on their own first, and only later conferred, but I knew this wouldn't always happen.
My idea was that they would at least interact with the exercises and the vocabulary multiple times.
