** ANNOUNCEMENT ** HercPrt v1.1.0 has been released-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1 I am pleased to announce the release of a new softdevlabs.com product called HercPrt. In return I am asking that you PLEASE MAKE A DONATION. I haven't had to do this in a long time now but current economic conditions force me to. The meager income I was earning providing paid Hercules support is no longer enough to pay the bills. The economic crisis the U.S. is going through is affecting everyone and as a result my consulting income has dropped precipitously. Thus the need to once again "whine for money" (donations). I don't like begging (whining) for money since I'm sure many of you (or at least those in the U.S. in any case) are probably going through some economic hardships of your own, but it is especially hard on people like me who are still unemployed. For those of you who HAVE jobs and thus a reasonably steady income, please consider sharing a small piece of it with those less fortunate than you in the form of a donation: PayPal donation link: http://tinyurl.com/yen7p5l In return for your donation I am offering a new product which I hope you will find useful. It is called "HercPrt" and is a remote Hercules printer spooler: http://www.softdevlabs.com/hercprt It is a Windows program that spools the printout from a Hercules socket printer and creates either PDF files or RTF files or HTML files or just plain old text files in whatever directory you choose under the control of a Job Separator Control File that enables HercPrt to split your printouts on Job Separator Page boundary and name the file according to the actual job accounting field values extracted directly from the separator page itself. And it does all this without the need of any third party product being installed beforehand. All of the PDF, RTF and HTML generating code was hand written by myself based on the available documentation from Adobe as well as several samples floating around the web. Your PDF reports can be created on Green Bar paper in any of several predefined colors (Green, Blue, Yellow and Red) or a custom color of your own choosing. Your PDF report can be created using any of several predefined paper sizes (including "compact" fanfold) or using whatever custom form size desired. You can even have is create your PDF files with realistic looking "feed holes" if you want. Additionally, "overlaid" printing is also fully supported, so feel free to print those old "picture" printouts of naked ladies or Albert Einstein etc that you've had laying around all these years. :) As an added bonus HercPrt also comes with a command-line utility called "txt2pdf" that will convert a text file into a nicely formatted PDF or RTF file. HercPrt comes with a full installer and complete context sensitive Help support for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. It is the first of my products to be released with an installer and full Help support and is meant to give you an idea of things to come.[*] My other products (HercGUI, CTCI-W32 (to be renamed to CTCI-WIN), AWSBrowse and ftape) are currently still in development and will be released as each of them are finished (by year's end I hope!). So, PLEASE make donation, won't you? I'm not sure we can even pay rent this month, which is why I'm whinin.. er, *asking* (HOPING!) for some much needed DONATIONS in return for HercPrt. PayPal donation link: http://tinyurl.com/yen7p5l Thanks everything. I really appreciate your kindness and continued patience as I continue to work as fast as I can at getting new versions of ALL of my products ready for release. (But in the mean time I could sure use some money!) Thanks. :) - -- "Fish" (David B. Trout) - fish@... Fight Spam! All of the installers are already written and appear to be working fine. The context sensitive Help infrastructure is in place and working well. The only thing remaining (for the most part anyway) is to write the help files. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP Desktop 9.8.0 (Build 2158) Charset: us-ascii wj8DBQFKxkSXSPXX9MTuPioRAiK8AKCuO8NGK/oxmYOESZGKsMT/lYTSkQCglWW9 u8+yPm7BcIiB/1f1k8uZwBM= =Qel/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

(sigh) Yeah, I forgot to mention that the current release doesn't have sockdev printer support. It didn't get added until June 1, 2009, well past the current 3.06 release date, so you'll have to grab a snapshot created after June 01, 2009. Sorry about that. - -- "Fish" (David B. Re: ** ANNOUNCEMENT ** HercPrt v1.1.0 has been releasedAll - I downloaded and installed Fish's HercPrt. It is a fantastic tool. I have been waiting for years, for something that would place my sysout into individual Windows files. It is exactly what I have been waiting for. I had to play with the Windows command IPCONFIG to get the correct IP address, and I also had to define a printer to JES, but after that everything worked as advertized. I am extremely happy with Fish's program. - David D. Did a change get backed out? > > I'm quite keen to use the HTML features :-) Hi Peter! As Mike Schwab has already said in his reply, Hercules switched from using CVS to using SVN as their source code revision control system. Jay Maynard made the announcement back in February 2009: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hercules-390-announce/message/57 http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/hercules-390/message/56493 It'd probably be a good idea to subscribe to the "hercules-390-announce" group to ensure you always receive such announcements. In my opinion EVERYONE should subscribe to hercules-390-announce. [*] Even if you don't like Yahoo, subscribe anyway and set delivery to email only. But at least that way you don't miss important announcements. (The hercules-390-announce group is extremely low volume). Here's the post where Ivan mentions SVN snapshots are working again: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/hercules-390/message/56782 Here's the post where Roger provides a link to view the new SVN change log page: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/hercules-390/message/58301 And for the sake of having all information in one post, here's the link to Ivan's new SVN snapshots page again: http://www.ivansoftware.com/snapshots/snapshots/ If you'll notice it's almost the same URL as before. Just add an additional "/snapshots" after the original URL and you got it. HTH - -- "Fish" (David B. Trout) - fish@... Fight Spam! All of the URLs for all of the various Hercules related groups (forums) are documented on the Hercules Technical Support page: http://www.hercules-390.org/hercsupp.html There may be others as well that were created recently and thus not listed on our web page but the above pages does list most all of them that I'm aware of. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP Desktop 9.8.0 (Build 2158) Charset: us-ascii wj8DBQFKyKQ/SPXX9MTuPioRAuQYAJ9eiybBdyhAszUZsgs95PzlqTExXACeK/Rx FuinddT2G9+Adm+tpA/TmIw= =gCpx -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Hash: SHA1 [...] > As Mike Schwab has already said in his reply, Hercules switched > from using CVS to using SVN as their source code revision control > system. [...] I forgot to mention: for those of you who like to dabble with building Hercules yourself and wondering if there was a Windows program that allowed you to directly access/download the Hercules SVN repository directly, there is: it's called "TortoiseSVN" and is VERY NICE: http://tortoisesvn.net/ It integrates directly into Windows so you can download and/or update your Hercules source by simply right-clicking on your desktop (or any Explorer window really) and selecting the desired function from the SVN context menu. It's great! Their "CommitMonitor" program is also very nice and lets you know almost immediately whenever someone commits a new change, possibly with that fix you've been waiting for. The two of them together are VERY very nice. Highly recommended. - -- "Fish" (David B. Trout) - fish@... Fight Spam!
