Summary: atsc scanning support

Initial Comment:
I have an HD-5500 (pchdtv) and in configure DVB it shows up as:

Name: LG Electronics LGDT3303 VSB/QAM Frontend

Type: Atsc

Source: <blank>

there is no source!  I tried copying the

/usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/atsc

directory you get when you install dvb-utils to my local

~/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine

alongside the existing dvb-x directories but it still doesn't pick up.

Anyhow please start including atsc in there for all us yanks!

Hi, and thank you.

Can you please document the output format for scan? In theory I should
easily be picking up stations where I am (based on antennaweb.org) but I'm
not getting any output from scan. Can I manually build a channels.conf file
with known station data, so I can narrow down my problem's causes?

Also, is it normal for can to output "ERROR: initial tuning failed" if no
stations are found?

just type "./atsc-converter /path/to/channel/file >channels.dvb" in that
dir (and copy channels.dvb to the right place afterwards)

I've compiled the atsc-converter executable via 'make'.

Can you tell me how to install and run it?

I tried 'sudo make install' but get.
'make: *** No rule to make target `install'.  Stop.'

Do I not need to install such a utility? How would one run such a script?

Thanks,
Dave

that's why this is a valid feature request - because scanning from the
frequency files isn't implemented for atsc yet ...

the util works with a scan file made from the scan utility, but not the
frequency files in the directory I listed above....

Tuning support for atsc is implemented (although I have to admit that it's
a bit hidden atm ...). You need to have a valid channels.conf file
(generated by the scan application in the dvb-utils package) and convert it
by the tool at [1]. Copy the output to
~/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/channels.dvb and it should work :)
