#10651: Alias changes when grouping buddies#10651: Alias changes when grouping buddies
--------------------------+------------------------------------------------- Reporter: mbateman | Owner: rekkanoryo Type: defect | Status: new Component: unclassified | Version: 2.6.3 Keywords: | --------------------------+------------------------------------------------- When I use the expand and drag method to group buddy accounts, it always changes the buddy alias to the name that is alphabetically first instead of keeping the alias the same as the one that was expanded. For example if a buddy has two accounts, one with display name "John Doe", and the other "Doe, John", no matter which one I drag into the other, the alias ends up as "Doe, John". It seems like it should keep the name the same as whichever one you expand and use as the master. -- Ticket URL: <http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/10651> Pidgin <http://pidgin.im> Pidgin _______________________________________________ Tracker mailing list Tracker@... http://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tracker |

For the collapsed contact pidgin will display the alias of the ["wiki:Using Pidgin#IgroupedmybuddiesintocontactscanIcontrolwhichoneisselected" priority] buddy (or the contact alias if you have set one), is that what you are seeing? -- Ticket URL: <http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/10651#comment:1> Pidgin <http://pidgin.im> Pidgin _______________________________________________ Tracker mailing list Tracker@... http://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tracker |

The grouped buddy (meta contact in Trillian) name changes when you first group them to whichever is alphabetically first. Regardless whether I drag "John Doe" into "Doe, John" or the other way around, the displayed name is always "Doe, John". So if I want it to be "John Doe" I have to then alias it after I combine them. The intuitive thing would be to keep the name of which ever one you are dragging into. -- Ticket URL: <http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/10651#comment:2> Pidgin <http://pidgin.im> Pidgin _______________________________________________ Tracker mailing list Tracker@... http://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tracker |

I see now that this does seem to be based on the priority. Whichever one is the priority shows as the grouped buddy name. This appears to be how it is inteded to work, but is not what I expected. I really like the idea of the Meta contact from Trillian where the meta contact name is separate from any of the individual accounts. They way you have it, the name that shows on the grouped buddy changes depending on which account is active. It would be nice to say the buddy group is called Bob and it would stay that way instead of changing from "Bob Smith" to "Smith, Bob" to "bsmith@..." which then moves it around in the list. -- Ticket URL: <http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/10651#comment:3> Pidgin <http://pidgin.im> Pidgin _______________________________________________ Tracker mailing list Tracker@... http://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tracker |

Once the contact is expanded, right-click the contact entry (the one with the triangle or + sign to its left), then click Alias. -- Ticket URL: <http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/10651#comment:4> Pidgin <http://pidgin.im> Pidgin _______________________________________________ Tracker mailing list Tracker@... http://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tracker |
