I use pidgin in a way to where I have groups based on geographic location.
Then if I need to talk to someone in say, Dublin, I can open that list.
Generally I have all sites collapsed except for my local site, as I talk
to these people frequently. This is pretty much the only way I can manage
my contacts as I have over 300 of them. We use IM a LOT at work. It's
Google Talk for the protocol for those curious.
The problem with this is that when I do a Ctrl-F to find a contact, it
will not search collapsed groups, nor offline contacts. Both are helpful
if I'm trying to get in contact with someone in a hurry.
Just as an FYI I'm using Pidgin 2.6.2 on Ubuntu 9.10, so if there is
currently a plugin for this or I need to install XYZ package, please let
me know. Otherwise just assume that this is a feature request.
