 While trying to find the problem with XMPP chat access with Pidgin and the
 Prosody server, we've discovered an odd behaviour of Pidgin:
 Once you try to join a chat and it fails, Pidgin won't actually try to
 join the chat again until you disconnect/reconnect.

Comment:

 This is the issue we've noticed where Pidgin will never re-send the
 initial <presence/> (after it typically disappears due to s2s issues).
