The Release Notification plugin notifies when new versions are available. A release announcement feature exists on SourceForge, where our downloads are hosted. First, the timeline gives too information, even if we filter that the changes of the wiki. Then, certain people don't use Pidgin but would like nevertheless to inform on the releases of new versions. Finally, when we add the RSS feed of SourceForge in Firefox, new versions aren't indicated in top but really all in bottom.
