Hello NetCAT team,

I hope you will find today's summary useful and formatting better. ;-)

1. Overall summary

Although you are still eager to share own experience with development builds via e-mails, it looks like bugs are harder and harder to find week by week. In the previous week there were ~8.3 messages sent every day but average daily bug income lowered to ~5.7 submitted defects. Maybe it was just the outage of daily builds again.  :-) Anyway, this is a very good trend since we released NetBeans 6.8 Beta and total bug counts are still above targets. Let's hope the planned migration will not affect current stabilization much.

2. Important stuff
  • NetBeans 6.8 Beta was released last Friday and we are now focusing on reaching Code Freeze. This milestone is scheduled for November 15th if we will be able to keep bug fixing rate at 600 resolved bugs per week. BTW, according to Michel Graciano and Stefan Wilfling Beta seems faster!
  • Attention #2! NetBeans project site will start migrating [1] to the new infrastructure (Sun Cloud of course  :-) earlier: Monday - November 2nd. It's highly probable that there will be no status report next week. Also bug reporting will not be possible. Please use USBs/paper/stone - whatever available - for writing down defects you will encounter and prepare for BugZilla.

  • Yesterday, I asked you for cooperation in an Early Acceptance Research [2] because it is the right time now to collect an information about what annoys you most. Please don't hesitate too long and join Glenn Holmer & Michel Graciano who already voted. Don't let your popular bug get fixed after 6.8.

  • Thanks to Stefan Flemming who promptly contributed his tip to an article [3] at DZone about best new features in NetBeans 6.8!

  • Nicolai Abruzzese was already third NetCAT participant who got NPE on editing JSF pages (#171735). Luckily this bug was fixed and Nicolai confirmed it.
  • If you didn't like IDE performance during long VCS updates we improved it recently and multiple rescans of incomplete data should be avoided. The more people confirm it works as expected the better!
  • Peter Nabbefeld requested bigger description field in the NetCAT simplified submission form (#118536) and I fixed it within an hour upon his request. Peter also warned us about malicious content in our Wiki. Our web team immediately fixed it. Thanks Peter!
  • Thanks to Neil Green's report we reopened old 6.7 performance issue (#167152) about abnormally long preparation for searching in files across opened projects which sometimes ends up with OOME. Can you please upload few heapdumps Neil?
3. Bug hunting
  • According to Neil and Dennis Kühn, editing POM files is very unreliable these days. IDE sometimes rejects saving modifications (#175277), code completion is unusable (#173122), adding dependency does not work (#166414) or loop of exceptions is thrown when opening invalid POM file (#175331). It looks like Maven module is innocent in this case and the XML module is suspect. ;-)
  • Daniel Sheppard said he was not able to step into a method when debugging his Groovy application (#174958). Daniel, we need more information from you about your setup in order to reproduce this bug.
  • When debugging Ruby projects, the "Loaded Classes" window does nothing (#175255). This bug from Eric Smith can be only fixed by disabling the view for this release. :-(
  • Ulf Zibis added his steps to reproduce incorrectly placed Quick Search in the second row of toolbar (#145207). It still works fine for us. Anybody sees the same thing?
  • We are not giving up to find a cause of #174668 - reparsing of sources triggered during debugging session. Now already 5 NetCAT participants report similar problem when stepping through the code. If you can reproduce it, please follow Martin Entlicher's request. Thanks!
  • Best bug reporters of the previous week were Michel Graciano and Stefan Wilfling both with 5 submitted issues.

4. Statistics
Bugs submitted:    408 (+40)
Open bugs:            193 (3/11/157/19/3)
E-mails:                  666 (+58)
Any ideas for the next status report? Let me know!

Best regards,
-Jirka

Looks very good. :-) :-) 8-)

Sometimes wishes become fulfilled far from believing it before.
(hopefully Issue 162129 will be fulfilled by Santa Claus.) ;-)
I'm aware, that it is some more work to beautify the report by html. Surprisingly it too didn't have much impact on size (8k against 6k for Status Report - 5.)
It is very handy to have the (#123456) patterns directly clickeable.

Have a nice knocking-off time,

-Ulf
