#9600: Yahoo still does not work through SOCKS5 Proxy

I have read about the Yahoo issues, and 2.5.7 and 2.5.8 did fix my issue
at home on my broadband connection, but not at work.  Pidgin still does
not work through my corporate SOCKS5 proxy server since the Yahoo issues
 started, but Trillian does.

Pidgin had always worked on my corporate LAN using my corporate SOCKS5
proxy until Yahoo made all these changes and broke Pidgin, and it has
never worked since.  2.5.7 does not work and 2.5.8 does not work with the
SOCKS5 proxy, and I am using the same proxy and port as I always have and
 it works in Trillian.

The port my proxy uses is 1080.  When I do a netstat -a when connected
with Trillian, it shows a connection on port 5050, the Yahoo port.

A netstat with pidgin shows a connection to the proxy on port 1080, but I
get an error saying the server refused connection.

Comment:

Does your proxy allow SSL connections through it?
We have a limitation that if you connect to port 5050 through a proxy and
use a separate proxy or direct connection for SSL, then yahoo won't
 connect.
We hope to be able to resolve this issue soon.

So please check and let us know, if you require direct connection or
separate proxy for SSL, other than your SOCKS5 proxy.

Comment(by sulabh.dev):

Rather than changing the description, please use comments. It helps, looks
like a natural flow of conversation, when some other developer tries to
 debug the issue.[[BR]]

Trillian uses old, ver 12 for Yahoo!, whereas we use the latest v 16.
Trillian doesn't require an ssl login, it just needs to connect through
 the port 5050.[[BR]]
So you need to answer this question, "Does your SOCKS 5 proxy support SSL
connections, or do you need separate proxy / direct connection for SSL
 connections.
 [[BR]]
Also take a look at ticket #9488.

Comment(by psmith2100):

I have no real way to confirm if the proxy allows SSL through it.  Based
on what you say about Trillian, I assume my proxy does not permit SSL.

Let's assume my proxy does not allow SSL.  Is there a way to force Pidgin
to use the older version that Trillian is using since Yahoo obviously
still permits it because Trillian connects just fine.

Comment(by psmith2100):

Ok maybe there is an alternative.  Our company provided a dedicated SOCKS
proxy for IM, but maybe it does not support SSL.  I will try and find out
 for certain.

However, my company uses a different proxy for web surfing.  It is an HTTP
proxy server.  My web browser is configured with a proxy IP address and
 TCP port 8080.

I tried setting the Pidgin proxy settings to use this HTTP proxy server
and TCP port 8080 but I get this error message:  "Could not establish a
connection with the server: Access denied: HTTP proxy server forbids port
5050 tunneling."  So looks like our HTTP proxy server won't permit
tunneling to port 5050 but might work on a different port.

Is there a different port that Yahoo will work on?

 I tried ports 20, 23, 25, 80, 119, 5050, 8001, 8002 listed in this link.
 I get the same error using ports 5050, 8001, and 8002, but on 20, 23, 25,
80, 119, I get no error but it just hangs while trying to connect.

Have never tried to check that. In any case you need to have the same

New description:

Ok as requested, I attached the screenshots as JPEG files and a debug file
which looks to me to indicate the proxy is working like it should and
Yahoo is refusing the connection.  Again, Trillian connects just fine
 through the proxy.

When I do a netstat -a when connected
with Trillian, it shows a connection to the proxy on port 5050 which is
 the Yahoo port.

A netstat -a with pidgin shows a connection to the proxy on port 1080, but
I get an error saying the server refused connection.  Sometimes I get an
error saying "unable to connect to login.yahoo.com: SSL handshake failed."
 Please see attached screenshots.

Comment(by psmith2100):

Do you know when a release will be available to support a connection to
port 5050 through one proxy and an SSL connection through a separate proxy
or direct connection that was mentioned earlier in this ticket?  Is there
a beta version I can try?
