[ANN] Core Five Releases Open Source FileManager for CKEditorCINCINNATI, OH (11/04/2009) - Core Five Creative is pleased to
announce the availability of FileManager, an open source, web-based file browsing utility designed to integrate with inline HTML editors such as CKEditor (http://ckeditor.com/) and its predecessor, FCKEditor. Many users of FCKEditor have been stuck without an upgrade path to the vastly improved CKEditor 3.0, since the new version ships without a built-in file browser. The software's creators, CKSource, offer a commercial add-on, CKFinder, but it only includes connectors for a handful of server-side languages. FileManager rectifies this by providing a simple javascript API for which connectors can be written in your server-side language of choice. For the initial release, an example connector is provided for Lasso, with plans to include additional connectors in future releases. Contributions are encouraged. Complete details about the release, as well as installation instructions and an API reference, are available from the Core Five Labs blog: http://labs.corefive.com/2009/10/30/an-open-file-manager-for-ckeditor-3-0/ About Core Five Creative Core Five works with business and community leaders to heighten the understanding, awareness, and image of their business - aligning both customer perception and the organization's vision. Re: [ANN] Core Five Releases Open Source FileManager for CKEditorJason has a strong rep and cred to release good stuff and fix it
if bugs are found and reported, so I would trust it. CKEditor uses Lasso's file_upload tag. Security is under your control and how you manage file uploads. There was a recent thread on upload.type, with comments from Bil just about this topic, and of course there is my guide. It is not a file editor, but a file manager that allows you to select resources on the server and place them within the CKEditor GUI interface (it just writes the HTML <img src="/images/mypitchur.jpg">). I imagine you could use it to select a file and pass that onto your own editor interface. --steve On 11/4/09 at 3:22 PM, andremarigold@... I wouldn't recommend using it on public (semi- or otherwise) pages unless you disable or severely cripple certain features. If you're using the Lasso connector (which is currently the only included connector that is 100% complete), then you are using the upload functionality of Lasso, because all server-side operations are handled by the connector. Note also that although it is designed to work with CKEditor or FCKEditor, there's actually no requirement that you use either. > -- if both above are "Yes" - would this be a good option if we are using Lasso to do on the fly image conversion and resizing -- or would it not be easy to integrate? It's open source, so you are free to modify the included Lasso connector or do whatever post processing suits your specific needs. I would not consider it difficult to modify. Re: [ANN] Core Five Releases Open Source FileManager for CKEditorJason, this statement gives me reason to pause and ask exactly what
you mean. In comparison to the build in file browser in FCK does FileManager give you greater system access? From what I can tell FCK's built-in file browser locks you in to the folder programmatically. Re: [ANN] Core Five Releases Open Source FileManager for CKEditorWay to go, Jason!
Now if only CKEditor would reinstate the shared toolbar possibility that FCKEditor has I could start contemplating an upgrade. Re: [ANN] Core Five Releases Open Source FileManager for CKEditorThe security paradigm is essentially the same. Meaning, I wouldn't use
the old FCKEditor filemanager on a public page (i.e. accessible by anonymous users) either, but that's just me. If this type of interface is something you actually want to use in that scenario, then you should take extra precautions to limit the damage a user can do by deleting files within the given directory (something FCKEditor's browser does not do), and uploading files (all kinds of potential issues). - jason On Wed, Nov 4, 2009 at 7:53 PM, Marc Pinnell <lassolist@...> wrote: > Jason, this statement gives me reason to pause and ask exactly what you > mean. In typical usage, (F)CKEditor inserts the appropriate markup depending on which function made the request. It could be image tags, download links, embedded media, flash movies, etc., but you could just as easily invoke the FileManager from your own custom function and do whatever you want with the result. There's no requirement that you use it with (F)CKEditor. - jason -- tagSwap.net :: Open Source Lasso Code <http://tagSwap.net/> -- This list is a free service of LassoSoft: http://www.LassoSoft.com/ Search the list archives: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/Browse/ Manage your subscription: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/ |
