Summary: /dev/dsp1  not available as an option for OSS output
           Product: xine-lib
           Version: 1.1.12
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: Plugins / Audio Output
        AssignedTo: xine-bugs@...
        ReportedBy: xine@...

In a 2-soundcard setup, the machine usually has an internal card (/dev/dsp) on
a notebook speaker, and an external USB soundcard (/dev/dsp1) connected to a
hi-fi amplifier.

Neither Xine, nor Amarok (with xine-engine) will allow /dev/dsp1 to be selected
from the dropdown box, even though the device does actually exist. There's no
way to manually enter the device either; there are just 2 options: /dev/dsp and
/dev/sound/dsp.

(In this case, I really do have to use the OSS device: I can't use ALSA
directly because of other issues, and the system hasn't got enough CPU speed to
use pulseaudio)

My workaround is to symlink  /dev/dsp1  from /dev/sound/dsp   - but that's
really ugly!

Here is the original report which I filed on Amarok:
  http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142577
That bug has been correctly resolved as invalid for Amarok, because Amarok
doesn't generate the devices list itself, but relies on the details exported by
xine.

You want audio.device.oss_mixer_number.
