I think it's very handy to have block selection with the mouse, while holding a key to indicate that it's not ordinary -line- selection. I'm used to editpad lite, which I've become familiar with, and has this feature. Also much more straight forward usage to move the selected block around: middle mouse button to cut and move the selection around SHIFT+middle mouse button to copy and move the selection around. In addition the selection is INSERTED into existing text i.e. existing text is either split or moved around the selection.
