When attempting to set view properties for a specific directory, selecting the
"use as default for new folders" option applied the chosen settings to all
directories that do not have a .desktop file.

This is inconsistent and in my opinion, buggy behaviour.

Scenario, I have the default icon view. I have no .directory file in my home.
If I choose edit the view properties for an Images subdirectory, this works
fine. It creates a .desktop file only in the images directory. I can even tell
dolphin to force those settings for all subdirectories. Again, it propagates
these settings to all subdirectories of the Image directory that I'm applying
the settings to. This is normal, correct behaviour.

However, if I also select the option to force these settings for new
directories, it applies the view properties I've just set for the Images
directory to *every* directory that doesn't already have a .desktop file
(basically, any directory that's using the default view). Based on how this
dialog works, it should only force the view properties on any new subdirectory
that's created inside the Images directory. It certainly shouldn't be affecting
existing directories anyway. The option does stipulate that it affects only
*new* directories afterall.

Steps to reproduce:

1) open dolphin (I guess you'll be in your home dir).
2) create new dir
3) open dir and select view > adjust view properties from menu.
4) select the following options: "Show Preview", "Current Folder including all
sub folders" and "Use as default for new folders". Hit OK.
5) All directories will be affected, not just the directory you adjusted the
view for.

Please note that these steps assume that you're home directory contains no
.desktop file. This issue only affects directories without one.

I hope I've explained this issue clearly enough - I do tend to be unclear when
submitting bugs, unfortunately.

If I can help clarify the issue, please say so.

With that said, switching from Xfce to KDE4 is a decision I do not regret for a
second! I'm quite the happy bunny.

Afterthought:

Could it be possible that as I'm also selecting the "Current folder including
all sub folders" option, dolphin is incorrectly applying the settings to the
parent directory (the .. dir) and consequently all sub directories of that
parent, and so on - recursively? That could explain why it's affecting every
directory?

Actually, scrap that - I just tested it and selecting that option doesn't
create a .desktop file in the other directories. In that case, I'm unsure why
the settings are being applied universally. Like a "default" setting. I guess
this is done to affect any newly created directories (that won't have a
.desktop file), but it doesn't take into account any *existing* directories
that don't have a .desktop file. These directories shouldn't be affected and as
I stated earlier, I believe only sub-directories of the directory the settings
are being applied to should be affected.
