Hi !

To launch Kompose, you need to press a set of keys. In my case, I have set
"F8".
It would be nice to select a windows on which the focus on by pressing one more
time the button (F8 for me) instead of only being able to click or press enter.

This sounds completely useless to me. When I have to move the mouse to
highlight a window, I can click the left mouse button. When by chance the mouse
is on the window to select I can press as easily return as ctrl+f9 (which is
the default).

As the layout can change each time you execute the effect you can't know where
the window will be positioned, so you have to check the position anyway. For
fast switching there is alt+tab (which can use present windows as well).

Even more I think most users would consider the change as a bug as canceling
the effect would change the select application and it would look like a random
result to them.

I naturally disagree. You're right, you can use your mouse to select a window.
However, I prefer to use my keyboard to do it and most of the time my keyboard
only.

And yes, I can do alt+tab but that's not the point, because you can also do it
with Kompose and I like it that way.

In this case, I like being able to "speed launch" Kompose (like a speed dial on
phones) with F9 (and not ctrl + F9 which is in my opinion, not user-friendly
but that's not the point here).

Once Kompose is launched, it only take a second to see which window you want
and another sec to select it with the keyboard with one hand. It happens fast
while your other hand is still on F9. Thus, selecting the window by pressing
one more time F9 is efficient.

What you say about the bug is completely irrelevant. I'm not asking to *change*
anything but to *add* a selecting choice.
Therefore you could choose to select your window in 3 different ways instead of
2 :
- click with the mouse
- press enter
- press the key you set

Moreover, for your information, what I'm asking is how it works in Mac OS X and
most of the mac users I know are not confused with this feature. I really
believe it's efficient.

Please consider what I'm asking.

Regards

Ok, I thought you wanted a change, which would be as mentioned out of scope.

We do not have bug to bug compatible with Mac OS ;-)

For one I don't think we should add an option for it, which would just be a
cluttered UI for most users. But even if it would be added, it is dificult as
the effect checks for the shortcut first, then for the normal keys. This would
require a complete additional code path, which is bad.

Too bad you're not taking under consideration my request. I really miss this
feature from Mac OS X and so do people I know.

Just so: I'm not the only developer and please have a look on the number of
open bugs and feature requests of KWin. There are feature requests which are
many years old and have hundreds of votes. It's just the reality that we do not
have the time to implement everything the users wishes. Moaning does normaly
not help your case but makes it worse.
