This is on Mandriva 2009.1 Cooker with gxine 0.5.904 and latest lirc from CVS:

checking for LIRC... configure: error: Package requirements (liblircclient0)
were not met:

No package 'liblircclient0' found

liblircclient0.pc doesn't exist in lirc.

I have the lirc shared library and devel packages installed. There is no
pkgconfig file in the package. It does not exist.

$ rpm -qa liblirc\*
liblirc0-0.8.5-0.20090320.1mdv2009.1
liblirc-devel-0.8.5-0.20090320.1mdv2009.1

$ rpm -ql liblirc-devel-0.8.5-0.20090320.1mdv2009.1
/usr/include/lirc
/usr/include/lirc/lirc_client.h
/usr/lib/liblirc_client.a
/usr/lib/liblirc_client.la
/usr/lib/liblirc_client.so
/usr/share/aclocal/lirc.m4
