[Bug 54295] NEW: Unable to install on raid 0https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=54295
Summary: Unable to install on raid 0 Classification: Mandriva Linux Product: Mandriva Linux Version: Cooker Platform: i586 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: normal Component: Installation AssignedTo: install@... ReportedBy: den.jean@... QAContact: bugs@... Description of problem: Unable to install on a software raid 0 using diskdrake/custom disk partition. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): cooker 5/oct/2009 How reproducible: in installation use custom disk partition diskdrake already strangely denotes drives as sdi, sdj, sdk (unlike 2009.1 where they are called sda, sdb, sdc. Before installation I already tried setting up 2 partitons as raid 0 for in 2009.1 w/o problems. During cooker installation however diskdrake complains when trying to format: An error occurred ext3 formatting of md2 failed. I also tried ext4, that fails to. The same steps work with 2009.1 should be unrelated, but I install by only downloading latest cooker vmlinuz/all.rdz from alt0, add these to grub and choosing http (with proxy from work) from boot. I have a multiboot 2009.1 32 bit and 64, both with a / on a raid 0(md0,md1) and a /boot on a normal partition. No problems with software raid there. -- Configure bugmail: https://qa.mandriva.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug. |

[Bug 54295] NEW: Unable to install on raid 0https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=54295
Summary : Unable to install on raid 0 Product : Mandriva Linux Component : Installation Version : Cooker Status : NEW Severity : normal Priority : normal Assigned To: pterjan@... Reported By: den.jean@... --- Comment #9 from Den Jean <den.jean@...> 2009-11-03 16:32:03 CEST --- I could not boot the installed mandriva 2010RC2. Always kernel panic because not able to mount the root filesystem. In a 2009.1 I created a new initrd and now it works /etc/mdadm.conf on the root fs of the M2010 contains incomplete array lines (no UUID). Correcting this file does not help so from within booted M2009.1 cp /et/mdadm.conf /M2010root/etc/madm.conf does not help mount - bind /dev /M2010root/dev/ (and sys and proc) chroot /M2010root mkinitrd -f -v initrd2.img version and use this initrd2 in my grub -> works I also noted that while I used a /boot partition on the second disk (to not overwrite the link vmlinuz/initrd.im on the my main /boot) in my installation of M2010, the grub/menu.lst gets incorrect entries such as (hd0,8) instead of (hd1,8). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Bug Text: Description of problem: Unable to install on a software raid 0 using diskdrake/custom disk partition. You said you fixed it on 19 oct, so I tried cooker network install again: vmlinuz and all.rdz from alt0 in grub -> fpt mirror -> .../devel/... And now it works, even better: there is prefilled raid page like in diskdrake in an installed mandriva. The install is still busy, so I do not know if it boots, will report later on that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Bug Text: Description of problem: Unable to install on a software raid 0 using diskdrake/custom disk partition. Summary : Unable to install on raid 0 Product : Mandriva Linux Component : Installation Version : Cooker Status : NEW Severity : normal Priority : normal Assigned To: pterjan@... Reported By: den.jean@... --- Comment #11 from Den Jean <den.jean@...> 2009-11-03 22:55:13 CEST --- The installer diskdrake did not ask to have a boot on a non raid partition anymore (it used to do so) -> so I guessed this was a new capability and tried that. But it didn't boot. So I reinstalled and used a / on a raid and a /boot on a normal ext2 partition -> it worked. I am glad mandriva supports software raid during install. This makes it easy to install a very fast linux (/ on a raid0). Only small remark, diskdrake should complain if /boot is on a raid partition. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Bug Text: Description of problem: Unable to install on a software raid 0 using diskdrake/custom disk partition.
