Description of problem:

Attempting to play a dvb-t channel give the error message,
"Could not open media source."

It does play files recorded by old Kaffeine in Mandriva 2009.1.  

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

2010.0 rc2 i586 free dvd, plus updates
I tried loading a few gstreamer rpms, including phonon-xine, without effect.

How reproducible:

Only tried a couple of times so far.  

Steps to Reproduce:
1.  start Kaffeine
2.  tune channel selection
3.  select a channel

Have you checked with a different application to be sure this is a kaffeine
problem and not a hardware detection one?

The hardware plays DVDs and shows dvb-t with Mandriva 2009.1, KDE 4.2.4, and
Kaffiene 0.8.7.  

There has been a slight regression, it now does not even tune, although it can
play old recordings.  Neither does it play DVDs.

I think that there has been a hardware failure.  I have two dvb-t tuners, one
of them is suspect.  The 2009.1 installation seems to be using the card that
works and just refusing simultaneous recordings.  The 2010.0 installation seems
to refuse to do anything.  The suspect card has been removed...  

Now 2009.1 is working.  2010.0 rc2 plus updates is back to "Could not open
media source."  And the DVD situation has improved slightly, menus are shown,
but not acted upon.

(mplayer, vlc...) with latest cooker?

No I have not made it work with any other application, but that could be that I
just don't know what I am doing.  :-(

It's because you need to run it with a device, for example:

No sush device in 2009.1 or 2010.0rc2.  Did you mean /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 ?  

The results are similar in either release; no video is displayed, ^c is needed
to get control back.  From 2009.1 it looks like this...

It could be a problem with phonon-gstreamer. Is it working with phonon-xine?

Kaffeine is almost working now.  

I can watch dvb-t now.  Strangely some channels have no sound, possibly it is
the high definition channels.  I'll have to investigate.  

It can play a DVD now - with sound.  

I'm pretty sure that Kaffeine is incompatible with gstreamer.  Xine is
mandatory.  I'll look for the reference.

If I understand these references correctly (not guarenteed) then the version of
Kaffeine in 2010.0 rc2 requires phonon-xine.

This is an important problem with phonon-gstreamer, I assign this to Nicolas,
if this can't be solved, a reference should be added to ERRATAS (but I want to
have the opinion from Nicolas at first) and, then, priority be downgraded

Attempting to play a dvb-t channel give the error message,
"Could not open media source."

It does play files recorded by old Kaffeine in Mandriva 2009.1.

2010.0 rc2 i586 free dvd, plus updates
I tried loading a few gstreamer rpms, including phonon-xine, without effect.

How reproducible:

Only tried a couple of times so far.  

Steps to Reproduce:
1.  start Kaffeine
2.  tune channel selection
3.  select a channel

OK with adding an ERRATA then? Should it suggest to install phonon-xine?

Just wasted half an hour chasing around after this problem in a new install of
Mandriva 2010.0  Although I had the luxury of knowing Kaffeine and DVB used to
work in Mandriva 2009.1 (seem to remember that took some effort as well).  It
may not be release critical - but a) it is a known bug before release - which I
thought release notes are for declaring; b) it does not look good showing off a
new install of Mandriva, if fixes have to be found and applied before use.
Please

1) Put it in the Mandriva 2010.0 Errata.

2) Change the dependencies of Kaffeine to use phonon-xine or fix it another way
please.

ps should another bugzilla report be raised against 2010.0 release and linked
here?
