       RPM Package: plymouth-0.7.2-7mdv2010.0
Summary: verbose shutdown only shows a black screen
    Classification: Mandriva Linux
           Product: Mandriva Linux
           Version: 2010.0
          Platform: x86_64
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: normal
         Component: Core Packages
        AssignedTo: fcrozat@...
        ReportedBy: udo.rader@...
         QAContact: bugs@...

as discussed on the ML [1], when shutting down and pressing ESC, one ends with
a black screen being exact the opposite of verbose  :-)

One has to manually switch using Alt-F1 to see what's going on during shutdown.

I don't know if 32 bit is different, but I always boot with splash=off on
cmdline to get verbose non-graphical startup messages, and as a result, I get
similar non-graphical shutdown. Whether and how plymouth affects this type of
boot and shutdown I don't know.

This problem appeared after implementing splashy.
Splashy was showed on tty 6 but shutdown information was printed on tty1 (or
another virtual console  but not on tty 6).
I suspect the same behavior with plymouth.

If splash=verbose is set on kernel command line then shutdown text is not shown
unless tty1 is manually invoked.
However if /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash contains splash=no instead of the default
splash=auto, then the shutdown text is displayed correctly without user
intervention. (2010.0 32 bit).
