Can you run the live cd(Do you get a desktop?) or shutdown happens in the
middle?
Does shutdown happen while installing?
I mean ,Will you get time to open a terminal and provide some info we need?

Yes, I can run the desktop. Sound, graphics etc all work. I am afraid of
damaging my processor though. I have about 5 minutes if going from a cold
machine, so I should have time to open a terminal. The cpu is a Celeron M320,
so 64-bit. Could this be the problem?

May be this is a kernel related issue.I am not sure about that though.
As this is happening in the one version then I am not able to comment because
if you don't get time to install then it is a really big issue.

You can check with the free version of mandriva. If this a installer related
issue then it may work like
https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=49496

In the meantime I will ask the experts to have a workaround in your case.

Are you sure this isn't a laptop issue? In my case, I need to periodically
clean my laptop fan because it gets a lot of dust. In my case, I can clean it
simply blowing strong in the oposite side of air moved by the fan

It is not a laptop issue, because I can (and do) run Debian Lenny on it with no
problems. (Other than Wlan0).

Well, debian uses old kernels...

Does it happend on 2009.1 ?

If 2009.1 is ok, can you try to install the 2.6.31.5 kernel wich is now in
2009.1 main/backports to see if it works.

ACPI is stricter in 2.6.31.x series kernels than it was with 2.6.29.x series
that we used in 2009.1

Also try if still valid with latest kernel-linus, for trying to know if it's an
upstream problem or not.

The problem with processor overheating is not evident on 2009.1 or 2009.0.

I cannot try the latest kernel, because the machine shuts down before
installation is complete.

Is there a custom spin available to try?

I might try Mandriva Free and see.

If you install 2009.1 on it you can try later kernels on it:

Here is a 2.6.30 series to try:
http://tmb.mine.nu/Mandriva/2009.1/i586/kernel-desktop-2.6.30.2-1mnb-1-1mnb2.i586.rpm

Here is a 2.6.31 series to try:
http://tmb.mine.nu/Mandriva/Intel-2009.1/i586/kernel-desktop-2.6.31.5-1mnb-1-1mnb2.i586.rpm

If you try both of theese, you can help us pinpoint better where it broke...

It is not laptop related, because I can (and do) run Debian on it with

Hi.
I probably have about 5 minutes before shutdown if the laptop starts
from a cold state.
I do get desktop, sound, wireless etc.
I should have enough time to open a terminal, but I am afraid of
damaging the processor.
What do you need?
Is the issue that the Celeron M is a 64-bit processor and one is 32-bit?.

Did you check if there's a BIOS update for your laptop?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original Bug Text:

Description of problem: When running the one edition of 2010.0 on my Toshiba Satellite A135-S2356, the machine (CPU?) quickly overheats to the point of shutting down. This will happen while running from CD or attempting to install.
The fan may or may not be running.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible: Every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Insert CD.
2. Turn on.
3. Wait a couple of minutes.

I do not want to do a BIOS update. There are too many bricked A135's out there,
caused by re-flashes gone bad.

Update: I installed Mandriva 2010.0 Free on the laptop. The problem with
overheating is now gone. I take this to mean that the problem is in the One
edition.
