Are you sure ? But in that case, why is xfs-1.0.8-1mdv2009.0 still
provided, including recent changes in the changelog ?
What apps are requiring xfs server to run, is it safe to remove it ?

Yes I am sure. It can still be run, but by default it isn't. But the
fontpath config should be adjusted to cover the situation w/o xfs.

I'm sure that in the Cooker archives you'll find howto. See also:
https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=32051. So the introduction should
have been a while before that.

(all links are green)

so well, I do not see anything that is broken; layout is logical
as well (config files are in /etc, scripts are in /usr/share).

So I'd say all those display managers has to be fixed.

The fact is that I don't have anything called Xsession in /etc/X11/xdm/
even after reinstalling xinitrc (at least twice) with --replacepkgs.

I have other files but not this one...... And how is it possible that
openbox/gnome, openbox/kde, e17 works and not KDE and Gnome.... The
launching processes are not the same ?

I'm not at home today so I can't investigate further

FWIW I still have xinitrc 2.4.19-10mdv2009.0 and /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession
still exists.

On a fresh June 21 cooker install with xinitrc-2.4.19-12mdv2009.0
/usr/share/X11/xdm/Xsession exists as a regular file but
/etc/X11/xdm/Xsession does not exist at all.

Yes; and so if this is final location display managers should be fixed to
use it.

I agree, kdm for kde3 is not able to start a session with a specific
window manager (kde3, gnome, evilwm), I only get a xterm with no
decoration (while startx is working fine when run from a tty console)
