[Cooker] LeavingHello.
I hesitated going public with this due to a number of reasons not worth bothering you about. The bottom line is that I as with Adam got my contract cancelled, this will take effect the 31st of december. Yeah, me too(tm). I've been contributing since 1999 I think and has been contracted by Mandriva for about four years now. It's been a fun ride and I'm going to miss it. It has been a pleasure cooperating with people from all over the world. Some of you I met in person on various occasions. I want to take the oppurtunity to thank you all, you know who you are. Someone, or a couple of people will get their hands full (or not) maintaining the 1200+ source rpm packages I currently maintain. This is mostly server related stuff. For example the (L)AMP stack, to my knowledge the most complete on the planet, constantly growing and alive. -- Regards // Oden Eriksson |

As I said in private, I'm really sad to hear this, Oden - you're way more critical to the development of the distro than I ever was. If you wind up maintaining LAMP for another distribution, please let me know which, because my server will be running that distro. Unless it's Ubuntu. ;) -- adamw |

> Yeah, me too(tm). I've said as much to you privately already, but this is a second major blow to Mandriva. I was quietly hoping that things would be negotiated in your favour and there would be a way for you to stay, but I guess that hasn't happened yet (I living in hope). My day job depends on the LAMP stack and I've been so very appreciative of your dedication to creating such a good stack in Mandriva. Without you at the helm with this I feel totally demoralised, not to mention quite concerned about what will happen to the tools and software that I depend on. I don't want to state the obvious but I contribute to Mandriva because I want my own desktop experience to be better, and I hope the work I do helps others too. If the LAMP stack in Mandriva suffers and I am forced to find a more reliable version in a different distro (I certainly don't have time to take over the maintenance) then I will not be using Mandriva on my desktop any more. You can join the rest of the dots. I really hope it doesn't come to that (this is not a threat or ultimatum - I'm sure I don't hold enough sway to make that worthwhile!) and it will take a while to see how badly this will affect things, but I have a really bad feeling right now. I know Mandriva has had it's fair share of ups and downs in the past but this really feels a very low point. I really hope some very decisive action for the management will be released to us soon that will help restore some confidence. :( -- Colin Guthrie cguthrie(at)mandriva.org http://colin.guthr.ie/ Day Job: Tribalogic Limited [http://www.tribalogic.net/] Open Source: Mandriva Linux Contributor [http://www.mandriva.com/] PulseAudio Hacker [http://www.pulseaudio.org/] Trac Hacker [http://trac.edgewall.org/] |

Oden, buddy, whoever is lucky enough to capture your talent next will be laughing with satisfaction while the *next* CEO of Mandriva is scrambling to figure out how to get you back. Spending some time with you was the highlight of my one and only trip to France. You gave me tips about Linux and RPM and server software. You also taught me a little about Sweden and a lot about life. May Northern Sweden treat you as well as Northern Canada is treating me. Oh, and may your LAMPy skills be rewarded with plump pay cheques in the near future! Austin |

Re: [Cooker] LeavingWow, this new CEO doesnt know how this works. Who hired him? How he
think Mandriva will be better if all the good employess doesnt work anymore there? All the good thinks from the 2009 release will be send to the trash about this. I think the problems with mandriva is not because of the cualitity of the distro but the admin people behind de distro, they dont know nothing about Free Software. Too many bad decisions in so short time. This new CEO doesnt read all this? the forums? the cooker lists? the blogs? who is this guy? is about to broke mandriva in a heavy way. can some one show to him all this opinions? |

Is Microsoft buying out the Mandriva CEOs? |

Oden, I've never met you in person, but like a good number of others, I've come to recognize your name on a great number of the packages that I use and rely on. I appreciate all the work that you've put into maintaining a consistent polish to your contributions. I hope you're quickly re-hired by a place that will give you the challenges you enjoy and opportunities to grow. Best wishes, - John |

Re: [Cooker] LeavingHi,
Just adding my little stone to the wall here: Oden and Adam have been both precious to the community and their respective contributions have been extremely valuable. Now it seems clear that the business strategy for Mandriva will be less and less development and more and more service-for-fee for probably companies and administrations. If one looks at their result figures, it is clear that consumer sells make a lot less money than corporate/admin/government contracts. Although this might make sense to a company, that cannot survive without making profit, I am really afraid for this community and also for innovation. Anyway, I wish Adam and Oden best of luck for the furture. I hope that you enjoyed France and Paris and that you'll find new jobs soon. If I were a CEO or HR, I would definitely try to get a hand on you! Kind regards, Zeb / Eric |

Really sad to see how Mandriva will collapse if more of these wrong decisions will be taken again |

Re: [Cooker] LeavingPlease some one tell me all of this is a nightmare, Mandriva was healing of all the change of name, bad decisions and bad projects damage, and now come with this, i really hope the non-external people that replace you, Oden and others do his job, other wise i see dark skies for Mandriva in future |
