[DVB-T recording] Bios entry for awaking the computerHi,
on Linux-Tag in Berlin I asked some KDE developers if a special function is possible in principle. They said yes, but they didn't know if that is planned for Kaffeine. Saving energy is a good thing. The idea: 1 The users sets the configuration of Kaffeine to *** Recording [x] "set BIOS entry for each recording task to awake computer at recording start and to shut down the computer after the recording" [x] "shut down Computer after recording only, if it has been booted for recording automatically *** 2 The user sets his system to an automatic login After that preparation recording works fine even if the computer is switched off before a recording. May be you like that idea? Is there any plan for the future to implement such feature for Kaffeine? I know that there are some ways to achieve this (acpi, nvram, deltaclock), but depending on the hardware you have it works +/- and you need additional privileges to set it up. > [x] "shut down Computer after recording only, if it has been booted > for recording automatically Automatic shutdown is certainly feasible and will be implemented sometime ... > *** > 2 > The user sets his system to an automatic login > > After that preparation recording works fine even if the computer is > switched off before a recording. For the wake-up part you could use an ordinary time switch (that saves also energy because the computer won't be in standby mode). For the second part ... well ... time will show :) > May be you like that idea? > > Is there any plan for the future to implement such feature for > Kaffeine? There are always nice ideas floating around - but our resources are limited so we have to focus on certain stuff. > Andreas Christoph ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. The people on Linux Tag said the same: "It is not easy." Well, I think it would be very great feature, because without, video recording will not happen de facto in many cases. Which user will leave it's computer switched on, when he is away for a couple of days? Yes, I know that there are projects like VDR, but they require an extra machine. That means: more space is lost, more cables, more complexity, etc. I don't like the usability of such a concept. One computer as an universal tool is IMHO quite more attractive. But without "BIOS awake" Kaffeine is not ready to replace a videorecorder. Please take my input as a suggestion. I'm glad if you developers think about the rank of such a feature in comparison to others. > There are always nice ideas floating around - but our resources are limited so > we have to focus on certain stuff. Of course. Thanks for your work. :) Andreas -- http://borumat.de ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace.
