thanks for bringing this up!

I'm not a DD (yet). Are there any objections to me preparing a booth for
this event? I just talked to 'devil' on #debian.de -- he's going to have
a sidux booth there. After LinuxTag2009 in Berlin together with sidux I
think it's worth the idea working together with them again.

I'm not experienced in doing stuff like this and I didn't even check my
calendar properly yet (I wouldn't know my next semester's duties already
anyways), but I think with a little help we can be present there.

If noone objects I'll try to bring this topic up at our next
DebConf11-Berlin meeting.

What do you think?

By no means you have to be a DD to prepare a booth. Imho, there's
nothing to be said against you running a booth if you assume there will
be other people around to help out staffing the booth.

Joining efforts sounds like a good idea to me. Imho, it would be nice if
somebody (e.g. formorer or devil) could provide some feedback about how
things went at LinuxTag 2009.

Do you know about the Debian events website [1], most notably the
section "Organizing Debian presence"?

Cheers,
Sebastian

I hope so :)

I've been there myself and found it a good idea. Also I've met devil a
few times now and think that we are able to work things out properly.

Yes, and I've created a wiki page for the event :)

Hi there,
glad to do so.
My idea was always to join forces on conventions both projects show at because
sidux is quite close to Debian compared with Ubuntu. IMHO its technical
relationship is a lot closer to grml, even if we do aim more at the desktop.
What got the Debian/sidux booth at LinuxTag 2009 going was this thread on
debian-events:
http://www.nabble.com/Disappointment-about-the-appearance-of-our-CLT-booth-
td22657421.html#a23073305
After that i talked to Alexander Wirt (foromer) and we made a shared
Debian/sidux booth happen at LinuxTag 2009 in Berlin that worked really well
from my point of view. Both projects did their own support for their project,
but i am sure we could have exchanged supporters if needed.
All in all the booth was just busy, well supported at all times and hummed
along fine with no problems afaik. If there was any, please, formorer, step up
and let us know. We also had talk in a room that was really hard to find about
missunderstandings between the projects. Sadly formorer was the only attendant
for Debian and sidux was about 10 people strong. So we did him in quite well.
Nah, just joking :)
Kuroi brought a chocolate cake with a debian swirl and a chili (sidux=hot and
spicey) ;) which i dealt out after the meeting where formorer made some points
that we are working on for better relationship.
All in all it was a pleasant convention, at least for me.

There's also a newer version of the howto in the Wiki [2] as well as an
FAQ-List [3].

[3] http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEventsFaqs

Hope that helps,

Well, then just for the record:

After talking to a few possibly interested people and of course devil
from the sidux team I decided to go for it indeed. We'll have a booth
together with sidux and I hope to be able to share some capacities with
Skolelinux as well.

Since this is my first event (as a "leader") I appreciate any additional
info, especially wrt commercial stuff or whatever would be usefull
there. If someone (I actually have already one but he's going by train)
is able to bring some stuff from froscon to Berlin, please contact me.

See you all there ;-)

Hi,

Jan just noticed that he has an unexpected date collision for the BLIT
and since I have a talk at BLIT, he asked if I could short-term take
over the booth organising. I will.

I would be happy if some of the Berlin located Debianers (Nion?
Hessophanes?) would join me for the booth (even if only part-time)
anyway. Because I don't know much about KDE and not much more about
GNOME either.

formorer: Jan sounded as if he didn't request merchandising stuff yet
because it wasn't sure if the booth will come about.

Anyway, since the booth is a joint booth (well, two tables side by
side) with Sidux, we'll have always someone at the booth, so we can
also sell some merchandising stuff.

formorer: There will be approx. 400 to 600 visitors according to Frank
Hofmann, one of the BLIT organisers. He can also receive and store the
merchandising stuff and maybe the big blanket with the logo. I'll send
you his contact details in a separate mail.

                Regards, Axel
