[Fwd: Re: [pp.int.general] EU social network spy system: NDECT]The attached email highlights an article from English Wikinews which has
been translated into German and published. It's all fair and above-board; they've credited Wikinews (with link to dewn), and as I say in the attached, there's absolutely no reason why the translation couldn't be cut and pasted from there into German Wikinews. Considering the English version[1], I'm not too sure what the stance of German Wikinews contributors is on fair use; I've assumed the video is © someone in the EU, and use it in its entirety via a local upload. The consensus among English Wikinews contributors is that - if our "Exemption Doctrine Policy" doesn't currently cover this piece of media, we should promptly amend it so that it does. The other thing is, I don't notice a "Request an article" > link on Wikipedia anymore. Google News alert, and it's effectively a full translation of the article I wrote on English Wikinews. [1] http://archiv.c6-magazin.de/06/news/?neuigkeit=3090 How notable, respected, widely read, is this German source? And, are there any wiki-savvy German speakers who could cut this from that source and put it on de.wikinews.org? I don't believe they have it; if they did, someone would have added an interlanguage link to the English version. All the licensing is completely in order to permit this, I would just add that I think it would be the right thing to do to credit the translation work to whoever carried it out. It might not happen, but that would be an important step towards getting an INDECT article in the German Wikipedia. -- Brian McNeil <brian.mcneil@...> http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Brian_McNeil Content of this message in no way represents the opinions or official position of the Wikimedia Foundation or any of its projects. _______________________________________________ Wikinews-l mailing list Wikinews-l@... https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikinews-l |
