Hey!
I just downloaded the SVN and compiled it and noticed when I started it
that you haven't implemented functions for the new iPod shuffle 4g. How's
that going? Do you know if you are gonna be able to get gtkpod working
with the new shuffle or how does it look?

Hi PGR,

As mentioned some time ago I have started working on decoding the new
shuffle databse format for the gnupod project. David, one of our users has
taken my guesstimates and added a lot of his findings to create a php parser
for the new shuffle format: http://evil.madrax.de/ipod/itunessd.php

There's still a lot of work to do but for the time being I'd like to
translate the knowledge so far into a more accessible format. A wiki seems
the logical place to collaborate on it.

I'd like to add it to the gtkpod wiki but we could come into conflict with
the terms of wikispaces.
Checkout https://www.wikispaces.com/terms  Section 3 b and c.

Reverse engineering a proprietary file format could be seen as violation of
those terms and eventhough it is legal to do reverse engineering for the
sake of compatibility here in Germany, I created a separate wiki instance.

http://shuffle3db.wikispaces.com/

Just to make sure that the lawyer/vulture squads that a certain
company likes to send after curious open source developers will not
"accidentially" take down gnupod or libgpod along the way...

cheers
-henrik

Yeap. I agree. I also would have liked to update the information on the
shuffle's volume adjustment field that seems to have been converted to
a replay gain (soungcheck) field long ago.

But the site seems to bounce a lot. It used to be down for a while.
Then it was up again for a week or two and now it is down again.

I added the description of the old shuffle format to the shuffle3db
from google cache. :-)

I invite everybody to add their findings about the new shuffle to the
new wiki. The place may be temporary but the information is published under
creative commons license. So it should be no problem to integrate it into
other collections later.

cheers
