Hi,

attached is a patch to fix the network manager's details on Meteor
Ireland's 3G service.   I had to manually put in this information to get my
connection to work following posts 11 & 12 at the end of this page.

http://www.jason-roe.com/blog/meteor-broadband-working-on-ubuntu/

With the new information it works fine, though DNS servers sporadically
doesn't get set.  I think this is a bug in network-manager though so I'm
not inclined to put DNS info in the providers file, in case they change.

Gavin

I don't mean to be a pain, but would you mind forwarding that email to the
list.  No matter what I do (including subscribe to the list), the email
just doesn't seem to go through.

Is this patch okay?

That's only correct for the Broadband-to-go product.  isp.mymeteor.ie and
data.mymeteor.ie are still correct for tethered operation using other data
bundles.

I see.  When I get time, I'll send another patch with an extra entry
instead of modifying the existing one.

Thanks,
Gavin

According to my experience+some forum browsing "data.mymeteor.ie" is the
new way to go. Unlike the old "isp.mymeteor.ie" it does NOT require
asking the customer service for some special provisioning for your
account; it just works out of the box for any type of (non-"broadband"?)
subscriber. And this APN was preset on a phone I just bought at a Meteor shop.

I tested both isp.mymeteor.ie and data.mymeteor.ie a few days ago and
the "username" and "password" were ignored for both APNs, as they always
have been.

Cheers,

Marc

I've pushed the BBTG APN; I guess I want a bit more info about the isp
vs. data APN thing.  Can somebody log into mymeteor.ie and look for some
support pages that list APN config options?  They seem to have put that
stuff behind the login.

Dan

Once you are logged in you can access the "Download Settings" page. This
page is basically here to send you settings by text. First you have to
select your phone model. Then you select one out of currently four
options. Only one of them is sending you an APN, and it's
"data.mymeteor.ie"; you cannot get the "isp.mymeteor.ie" APN sent to
your phone.

1. Meteor WAP and Meteor MMS     : "Web?" + Multimedia Messaging
2. Email                         : Email (POP3 + SMTP)
3. Meteor DATA                   : "Web?" + APN data.mymeteor.ie
4. Streaming                     : "Streaming" settings (?!)

Here the corresponding "documentation":
> WAP is used to browse the internet & email.
> MMS is used to allow you to send MMS (Picture Messages)
> Streaming is use to stream media online from sites such as YouTube.

I guess "Web" settings hold an http:// URL to be used as a home page. Anything else?

For me right now isp.mymeteor.ie and data.mymeteor.ie work exactly the
same. But many months ago, before data.mymeteor.ie even existed, I had
to repeatedly ask support to enable isp.mymeteor.ie for my account,
whereas "data" worked out of the box. I have read in several (NON
authoritative) forums that isp.mymeteor.ie is being phased out.

My experience with the "wap.mymeteor.ie" APN is that it is an APN of the
"walled garden" type. Never tried the mms.mymeteor.ie APN (and never could send
any MMS...)

I would just go with data.mymeteor.ie and forget isp.mymeteor.ie

Cheers,

Marc

Agreed.

Official word from meteor follows -

"data.mymeteor.ie is the preferred APN for handsets (devices using SIMs provisioned for voice and data services). You can consider isp deprecated (isp provided a public IP back in the day when a lot of services didn’t work with NAT).

Our mobile broadband devices/SIMs use broadband.mymeteor.ie."

Thanks everyone!  Updated the database:

1dfe9478a6b31c0e988553f3a900783675cd1e3b

and changed isp -> data, and kept Broadband To Go.
