[HEADS UP] Grizzly Logo Contest -> Find us a logo
Salut,
I would like to start a contest about a logo for Grizzly. The deadline
for submission is Feb 28 :-) So we have plenty of time to review the
submission, and more important, receive some! If nobody submit something
I will draw something but you might all be scared about my painting
skills :-) So just send your submission to me directly:
jfarcand@... and we will evaluate the submission every Wednesday
during our weekly meeting.
What you win?
+ If you comes to JavaOne 2009 (San Francisco, first week of June):

+ If you comes to ApacheCon 2009 (Amsterdam or Lux or Prague, Week of
March 21): drinks drinks drinks
+ If you are around Montreal (or Quebec): drinks drinks drinks (but

Even though I'm a Glassfish person, and probably don't have any sort of
voting power here =)...
Grizzly is used for things other than Glassfish, right? If so, why have
Glassfish be part of the Grizzly logo? It seems like putting the two
logos together where appropriate (myApp powered by Glassfish + Grizzly)
would be better than putting random glassfish logos onto things that
wanted to be "powered by Grizzly" but didn't use Glassfish.

Yeah , that's a really good point Jacob. I think you might be right... I did another one, It's a little less cute but perhaps a little more appropriate :)
Seeing as how I myself view Embeded Grizzly as the back bone of my project. this makes a little more sense :)

Hi,
I followed the inspiration from other Java related logos, usually very clean using some basic colors like the official one for Java, Glassfish,..., and a logo I made as a suggestion for the Lobo Browser and the project owner liked and uses now as the official project logo: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/RnOeeO1ebIuIl5Cll7QaKw?authkey=_99h7uf6aJg&feat=directlink (Lobo means Wolf in Portuguese)
For Grizzly I tried to incorporate the obvious idea of the bear with the NIO forming the right side and head of the bear. Hope you like it.
Just like an open source project, I'm open to suggestions to improve the logo.

I think I like the irregular head better. I also wonder if it would look
better with light brown rather than orange, and a slightly smaller paw.
Sorry for not providing examples, but my graphics design skills leave
everything to be desired.

I've added two more experiments to the album ( http://picasaweb.google.com/oswaldodantas/Grizzly?feat=directlink#) with shorter paws, different colors and in the last one an experiment with the paw idea.
Feel free to send color sugestions in RGB, CMKY,... (or maybe by name choosing from a table in this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_colors) to the different areas of the image (N, I, O, face shape, ears, nose, mouth) 2009/2/12 Jacob Kessler <Jacob.Kessler@...>

I thought I'd give it a try - I'm a Java developer too.
This is from a 3D model rendered in Poser 7, and color is post-added in Photoshop.
Color can easily be changed if unsuitable, plus its easy to move the paw.
