Hello CAN-Specialists,

I use a Silicon Labs C8051F502  CAN  Controller  and  need  urgently  an
isolator.  I like something like the iCoupler from Analog  Devices,  but
goten only the I²C and USB ones to work.

Can someone recommend a manufacturer or type I can use?

Thanks, Greetings and nice Day/Evening

Hi Steve,

In the application report slla298 (Isolated CAN Reference  Design)  they
are recommending the TVS PSM712 from ProTek Devices...  but this part is
horribel expensive.  Du you know a pincompatibel less expensive one?

I am realy not willing to pay 122,40 US$ for 50pcs (2,45 US$/pcs)

Hi Michelle,

Wow, I had no idea.  Try TDK's AVR-M1608C270KT2AB.  The TDK products are the
really small footprint but they work well and usually very affordable.

Cheers,
Steve C.

Michelle,

Also, take a look at the SM712, the Semtech original, and maybe the
Microsemin SMDB12C.

Cheers,
Steve C.

the tip with the SM712 was perfect.  Next week I will  get  the  samples
(from Ismosys; Distributor in France) and I can complete the Design  for
testing.

:-/

I had dowmloaded the two Datasheets arround 5 month ago and forgotten.

For arround 4 hours I was on the NXP site for a "bigger" CAN  controller
because I think, it is better to use two independant CAN  ports  on  the
"Master Controller" (currently AT91SAM9263) like the LPC3250. (need LCD,
Eth, 2 CAN, i²C and SPI available in the same time;  maybe OTG,  SD  and
touchscreen too;  I hate multiplexed I/O;  why is there  no  BGA5xx  :-)
with all functions available at the same time?)
