I have used subclipse for a long time now and Eclipse 3.5 for some weeks.
I tried today to update my plugins and noticed my subclipse was not the latest
one (perhaps 1.6.2, I don't remember).
After having updated and restarted eclipse, my projects do not show any mark of
subclipse, the context menu in team shows only an "apply patch" entry, and the
Team section in general/preferences doesn't contain an entry for SVN anymore.
The svn repository exploring has also disappeared.
The eclipse log file says:

I cannot think of anything.

This is probably a good example of something that would be better for the
mailing list: users@...

So you can reach a wider audience.

Also, I doubt anyone is going to have anything helpful based on this info.  I'd
look around for other errors.  Does the SVN Repository view show up and work etc?

Again, all easier and better for a conversation in the forum.

No, the SVN perspective doesn't exist at all!
It is as if I add completely removed everything. The only place were the plugin
appears is in the "installed software" lists (one can be reached from the
software update dialogs, another one from the about eclipse window). Even the
eclipse log file doesn't show much, the message I pasted in the initial post are
all I see there.

I have tried to deinstall and reinstall the plugin but it didn't work.

I will try tomorrow night to clean completely my eclipse setting (i.e. removing
the various .eclipse and .metadata directories) and reconfigure it to see if
something appears. If this fails, I'll try to ask on the mailing list.

After having reset my complete eclipse to a previous state from an external
backup, I get my configuration back. Then I tried again to update, but this time
updated only subclipse to 1.6.3 (from 1.6.2). Everything worked. Then I updated
collabnet merge to 1.9.1 (from 1.9.0.4) and everything works again.

I don't know what happened.
I think this issue can be closed as cannot reproduce.

I'm having the same problem. I guess I'll reinstall now and see what happens,
but there is obviously some sort of issue and I'd like if this could be
investigated by someone on the dev team. I'll let you know how the reinstall
goes, and if I can reproduce it I'll give exact steps.

By the way, mine apparently happened on the upgrade to 1.6.4.

I deleted my eclipse folder and re-downloaded and extracted a new eclipse
folder... And everything was the same. So then I figured out that my specific
settings were stored in C:\Users\Ricky\.eclipse - I deleted that one. Then I
opened Eclipse, selected my previous workspace, went through installing
Subclipse, and everything works fine now.

So I guess this issue remains non-reproducible...

I do not believe there is anything we can fix on our end.  Plugins are not
involved in the installation process.  The feature.xml simply declares what our
plugins are and what other features and plugins we require.  Everything else is
then left up to the Eclipse install mechanism and UI.  Clearly there is some
kind of problem in that mechanism.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, it seems to have only hit a few people.  So this
makes it hard to pinpoint what ought to be reported as the problem.

I also see this symptom with Eclipse 3.5 (on Ubuntu 64bit / Java 6).  Subclipse
works at first; but once I install another plugin any visible options from
subclipse disappear -- there is no longer an "SVN" sync option (although Eclipse
still says subclipse is installed).

I will try to install it piecemeal like the first poster to see if that resolves
the problem...

Oh that's right! When I reinstalled and everything now works, I neglected to
reinstall the team features which I did have installed. So those must conflict;
I haven't tried reinstalling them yet, but I will when I have a need for them
(especially the profiling tool I found to be useful). If the problem happens
again I'll uninstall and try that alternative package source. Thanks!

I have the same problem with Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) and Subclipse 1.6.
I've updated the subclipse plugin and that become unusable.
I've reinstalled everything (Galileo + subclipse) but when I open the old
workspace the plugin stop working.
