Hello all,

first of all: i'll be a little bit off-topic... please be patient and
excuse me... :)

The problem is: the guy who should have sold the workpad z50 hasn't
still sold it to me because he can't find his z50-compatible power
supply, and he has asked me if i would buy it without the power supply
BUT with a working and compatible 802.11b wireless card instead...

The question is... what would be better?
A power supply or the wireless card?

At the moment, i asked him to look fot the power supply, then to contact
me...

What's your opinioni ?
What would you choose ?

the wifi card isn't going to provide you with power!

For what it's worth, I've had success making the z50 work with a generic thinkpad (pre-lenovo) power supply.

Compare the prices between an 802.11b wireless adapter known to work and a power adapter.  A quick google seach turned up a US$6.99 power adapter for the z50, but its located in the USA ( http://www.sibwholesale.com/servlet/the-25819/Notebook-AC-Power-Supply/Detail ) ... the wireless adapters tend to go for quite a bit more, so... I guess my decision would rest on the what the difference in shipping costs would be for getting a wireless card or getting a power adapter.

Personally, it would depend on the wireless card.  But I already have a
z50 power brick.  If I didn't, the machine would be useless to me
without the power brick, no matter what else were included, because I'd
then have no way to either charge the battery or run it without a
charged battery.

well ya it won't provide you power however a little secret. that power brick is not all that specific matter of fact the regulation bites on em. any 19V PSU will do as long as the connector matches looking at my 4 bricks yes I got 4 (two of em I should throw away (something about an overheating issue with the ibm workpad/thinkpad PSU but mine dun get hot :) so I got 4 LOL 19V 2.4A PSu although open circuit voltage is 19.66V on one I measured once, they fluctuate there not rock solid PSU's  you can use any brick type that has the same connector positive on the inside and is around 19V if you go too low it won't charge the battery but albeit still power the workpad, you can plug 12V in there but it will just power the unit. That's a hint for those among you that want to use it in the car But you better make sure you have spike suppression the workpad Z50 won't like 40V spikes But you can use a few caps and a 14V zener diode to get around that problem. I'm
right now working on an inverter circuit that will provide the 19V with a car plug however I have many projects going so it will take a while.
So my advice take it and find a cheap psu on ebay the old 19V thinkpad ones will work too (that have the same connector) or if you have one laying around it could even just have 1A and 19V it will just take longer to charge the battery.
My $.02

I wouldn't be too concerned about the power brick, I've used a Gateway
19v brick with no problems with my z50.

Seems to be a pretty common configuration.
