[SPAM] Lirc Files and Locations
I am using Mythbuntu 9.04 and would like to get an
explanation in newbie terms of the files used by lirc and their
locations. I have lots of information but cannot get my head around all
of the files and their locations. I have a Snapstream remote control
and have managed to get responses from IRW but still cannot control
Mythtv. My better half fails to see any humor in me using a wired USB
keyboard for a mouse.

Re: Lirc Files and Locations
The good news is you're about 70% of the way there (you have lircd
working).
LIRC configuration consists of 2 parts for most people: 1) Configuring the daemon (lircd) 2) Configuring the client(s) (mythtv/vlc/xbmc/boxee/irw/etc) Simple description of files: /etc/lirc* -> Contains config files for lircd. If irw is working, everything here is fine /dev/lirc* -> Socket and device files that clients connect to ~/.lircrc -> Configuration for many LIRC clients (including MythTV) Not ALL clients use ~/.lircrc (a common exception is Boxee/XBMC which have an XML configuration file). On Ubuntu you can run mythbuntu-lirc-generator to create a ~/.lircrc file stub (which actually creates a directory ~/.lirc with files for different clients in it). You can then customize the contents of the ~/.lirc/mythtv file for example. There are many many howto guides floating around on how to configure clients, like this one: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/LIRC Good luck!
