Jennic have produced a chip that is supposedly able to be energised by
something as mundane as the energy generated by  flicking a switch.

Along these lines, if anyone on here is interested in working with a
capable ARM + 802.15.4 radio I suggest the mc13224v from
Freescale. I've been working on an open source project to support it:

   http://mc1322x.devl.org

It's not as low power as that Jennic part, but it isn't far off. And
you can't beat the price.
