[Tellico-users] Music data base, some (25%) UPC not recognized

Package: tellico
Version: 2.0 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2), Gentoo
Severity: grave
Compiler: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc
OS: Linux-2.6.31-gentoo-r2 (Gentoo)

Dear,

first of all, thank you so much for this nice pice of software which I hardly found in the past but later... I hope one day it'll be part of KDE-tree.

Up to now I used upcscan (http://blog.pdark.de/tag/upcscan/). However since the amazon aws changed to that access-key-validation, this didn't work anymore and also I searched for something less "closed". So Tellico basically satisfy me even I found some minor issues (for a beginner not so easy to recognize I have to change to Musik-database before I can search successfully an automatic or questione-dialog would be nice).

However, this report referrs to another issue:
I have successfully setup the amazon data in Tellico and can find music CD's in amazon which can bei merged to the database successfully as well. However, I have many many UPC's which I cannot find. One example is "Taj Mahal" Phantom Blues. It is definately listed in amazon http://www.amazon.de/Phantom-Blues-Taj-Mahal/dp/B0000000M4
Again others I can definately find so basically it should work. However I even found it is a difference if I search in amazon-us or -de (latter one finds more). My CD-collection is ~1000 issues and unfortunately ~25% cannot be found :-///

I would like to support you in debugging, please tell me what I could do. I could also pass you the list which I had in upcscan so you can verify (with this bug-report cannot add atachements but per your request I can send you...

Thank you very much in advance for your support

Very best Regards
 Axel

You really want your UPC values, eh? :)

Thanks for the email.

So the UPC value is not found by Tellico using amazon.com but is found for
amazon.de? The different Amazon locales do provide different results, that's
just the way they do things.

If you could provide a few UPC examples which fail to give results as you
would expect, that would help me with testing. Not just the titles, as you
gave for "Taj Mahal" but the actual UPC values themselves, along with the
titles. Just a couple would be enough. Maybe one or two that work
successfully as well.

Thanks,
Robby

For whatever reason, Amazon thinks the UPC is 1005821392 (without the last
digit). Searching amazon.de with that value gives a successful result.

However, from my reading, a UPC value in the US should probably 12 digits.
An EAN value in Europe should be 13 digits. None of the formats I looked at
have 11 digits, like the value you had. Can you verify your UPC value?

Yes, outside Los Angeles.

During an update by title, if the amazon search returns multiple results,
none of which have a match score high enough to determine which one is the
correct one to update, then that dialog pops up to allow you to choose. If
none of those are what you are updating, then it looks like Amazon can't
tell.

Just trying to figure out what Amazon considers a value ItemID/UPC/EAN. It
should be eiterh 12 or 13 digits, but some of the 10-digit values work. Very
confusing...

The update does a search by Artist, and there are so many results that match
War that the one you want doesn't actually show up in the first 25 results.
That updater should probably be a bit smarter and look for title, too.

Tellico has to be compiled with CDDB support. It's in the File->Import->From
Audio  CD.
