[Tellico-users] Sharing a tellico file between Tellico 1.3.3 and Tellico 2.0

Hello,

I'm using Debian stable on my laptop and therefore KDE 3 and Tellico 1.3.3
and on my workstation Debian Unstable and Tellico 2.0. Tellico 1.3.3 refuses
to open a file saved with Tellico 2.0. I was wondering if the format has
changed or if there is any workaround except building the new version for
Debian Stable.

Cheers,
Charles

I believe the format has changed, yes.

Building Tellico 2.0 on Debian stable would be quite tricky. Lenny only
has KDE 4.1, and Tellico depends on 4.2 (might work, though). And you
won't get CDDB access or kdepim integration either, since kdepim and
kdemultimedia have been kept in version 3.5 there. Overall it's of course
possible (everything is), but you will probably end up backporting most of
the kde4 libraries...

Parent Message unknown [Tellico-users] Sorting book titles

by D. Neve :: Rate this Message:

Hello,

I have a simple question for you, please.  I'm using Tellico 1.3.5 (using KDE 3.5.10) under Gnome on a Ubuntu 9.04 installation.  When I display the titles the articles "The" and "Le" are not sorted apart from the main title of the book and this makes finding a book extremely difficult and tedious.

This happens even though I have these words listed in the "Formatting Options" section of the "Cofiguration" section of Tellico.  The only workaround I have found is to go into "General Options" and delete a word, then click "OK" and usually this causes the file to reload properly.  Why is this, am I doing something wrong, and if so, what can I do to change it?

(This always used to work properly for me.)

Thank you very much,

Derrick Neve

Yes. You are right. I'll wait to see if Robby has a workaround or I'll
create an unstable chroot on my laptop.

Thanks for the Debian package Régis.

To open the file with 1.3.3, you'll need to unzip the .tc file and edit the
tellico.xml file inside of it. Up at the top, where the syntaxVersion="11"
is, change that to 10, I think, or it might even be 9.

Derived/dependent fields will probably be broken when you open with the
older version, and the modified/created date fields won't work. I _think_
that's all that should be different.

I'm not sure why you have to use that workaround. From your description, the
sorting should work as you expect. I don't remember there being a bug about
that.

The title field has to have "Format as a Title" turned on, for the sorting
to work that way, so check that. And then the "Auto format titles and names"
option in the settings has to be on, but you mentioned that one already.

I think I have the same problem (though with 'the', 'a', and 'an').  I'm also using Tellico 1.3.5 (KDE 3.5.10) in Gnome on Ubuntu 9.04.  I only see this with one of my collection files, though; it was only my DVD collection, which I don't open too often, so this issue didn't really bother me and I never spent a lot of time investigating it.  My books collection file, with many more entries, works as expected.

I just verified that the title field is set to "Format as a title" and "Auto format titles and names" is selected.

Would you like me to attach a copy of my DVD collection file?  I trimmed it down to just 3 entries and still saw the sorting issue.

Maybe it's worth noting: the issue shows itself by not formatting the title properly, so for example "A Life Less Ordinary" is displayed as "A Life Less Ordinary".  After the workaround (make and apply a change to the list of articles), the title is displayed as "Life Less Ordinary, A".

Andrew

At least with Tellico 2.0, I can see that it's not sorting correctly. I
haven't had a chance to dig into it yet. Thanks for offering your trimmed
DVD collection file, since I can reproduce the problem, right now I don't
need it.
