[VOTE] Struts 2.1.8.1 Vote

by Wes Wannemacher :: Rate this Message:

The Struts 2.1.8 test build is now available.

Release notes:
* [http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/WW/Version+Notes+2.1.8.1]

Distribution:
* [http://people.apache.org/builds/struts/2.1.8.1/]

Maven 2 staging repository:
* [http://people.apache.org/builds/struts/2.1.8.1/m2-staging-repository/]

Once you have had a chance to review the test build, please respond
with a vote on its quality:

[ ] Leave at test build
[ ] Alpha
[ ] Beta
[ ] General Availability (GA)

Everyone who has tested the build is invited to vote. Votes by PMC
members are considered binding. A vote passes if there are at least
three binding +1s and more +1s than -1s.

The vote will remain open for at least 72 hours, longer upon request.
A vote can be amended at any time to upgrade or downgrade the quality
of the release based on future experience. If an initial vote
designates the build as "Beta", the release will be submitted for
mirroring and announced to the user list. Once released as a public
beta, subsequent quality votes on a build may be held on the user
list.

As always, the act of voting carries certain obligations. A binding
vote not only states an opinion, but means that the voter is agreeing
to help do the work

In addition to the normal info above, I also want to add that I made
the distro available for easy testing through the struts zone. If you
point your browser here -

http://struts.zones.apache.org/

You can test our reference apps on both tomcat and jetty.

Thanks for your help!

-Wes

+1 GA. I have been using it and it works fine. I also tested unzipping
the files in windows xp and that was fixed as well.

Since Struts 2.1.8 is incompatible with FreeMarker 2.4 (bug  WW-2766
and WW-3275) which is bundled in 2.1.8, I would hope you are
delivering this build with FreeMarker  2.2.1 (and actually it seems
fine with 2.3 as well).  However, there are a number of us who use
FreeMarker and Sitemesh, and this is a major show stopper for us.  If
not, perhaps a documentation note to say that Struts 2.1.8 is
incompatible with Sitemesh and FreeMarker 2.4 would be appropriate.
We had to download the source code of both to see the deprecated code
and then found these tickets which does include workaround.

If you have bundled 2.1.8.1 with the older FreeMarker, or have updated
the struts-sitemesh plugin, I can deploy it on our test sites and
confirm that the plugin works.

I think you meant "sitemesh" instead of  freemarker right? FreeMarker
2.3.15 is what is bundled with Struts 2.1.8.x.

Please take this discussion out of the vote thread. This thread is for
voting on the 2.1.8.1 artifact that is already built and ready for
quality assessment. Thanks.

Ping?...

The vote has been open for almost a week. Does anyone else have the
bandwidth to test 2.1.8.1?

I'd like to wrap this up, one way or the other. If no one else chimes
in, I can close the voting... But since the docs are screwy in 2.1.8,
I'd like to be patient and hope for another vote.

Sorry it has taken so long, but I am going to call this vote...

There were 5 +1 votes, 3 were binding.

Binding +1 votes -
Wes Wannemacher
Musachy Barroso
Rene Gielen

Non-Binding +1 votes -
Eric Chijioke
alvins (alvins1982@...)

I will start pushing artifacts out and post the announcement once the
mirrors are sync'd.

Just dropping a note to let folks know I'm alive, and won't have a
chance to look at this for another week or so. A death in the family, a
new job, and life kinda took over for a bit there :/

Dave, sorry to hear... Don't worry about testing, we got the required number
of votes and I pushed to the mirrors. I'll post an announcement shortly.
