[bug #13593] The windows are drawed slowly on remote displaysURL: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=13593> Summary: The windows are drawed slowly on remote displays Project: GNUstep Submitted by: fedor Submitted on: Fri 07/01/2005 at 00:49 Category: Application Severity: 3 - Normal Item Group: Bug Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Open/Closed: Open _______________________________________________________ Details: Package: libgnustep-gui0.9 Version: 0.9.5-1 Tags: forwarded [If you reply, please keep the CC to nnn@...] When I tried to use the GNUstep application remotely on a diskless X terminal I noticed that the contents of the windows is drawed very slowly - pixel by pixel, row by row, so that the whole process of drawing is clearly visible. The non-GNUstep windows draw fast. If I try to select a few files in the Viewer (in Icon mode) by enclosing them in a rectangle (with the mouse) the rectangle resizes unacceptably slow. Notice that the rectangle in the root window of Window Maker draws very fast. _______________________________________________________ Carbon-Copy List: CC Address | Comment ------------------------------------+----------------------------- 315277@... | _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=13593> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ _______________________________________________ Bug-gnustep mailing list Bug-gnustep@... http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-gnustep |

[bug #13593] The windows are drawed slowly on remote displaysFollow-up Comment #1, bug #13593 (project gnustep): 2 points, - ps ops over network - a mechanism to cache bitmap in the backend. i think gnustep should try not to pass the bitmap over network. a seperated server is required so we can pass only ps ops around. and bitmap image representation should be cached in -back some how. may be we can have a special bitmap representation that allow a mechanism to annouce changes onto the bitmap data so we can copy neccessary part over network? _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=13593> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ _______________________________________________ Bug-gnustep mailing list Bug-gnustep@... http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-gnustep |

[bug #13593] The windows are drawed slowly on remote displaysUpdate of bug #13593 (project gnustep): Status: None => Works For Me _______________________________________________________ Follow-up Comment #2: Adam, does this still happen? I export display and xlib. While it is clearly slower than other non-gnustep apps, I do not experience it "so extreme" as you describe. I used to experience it that bad on 256 color displays before faster rawing was implemented by some kind soul. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?13593> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ _______________________________________________ Bug-gnustep mailing list Bug-gnustep@... http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-gnustep |
