Details:
Hardware:
- HP Mini 1000
- Boot device: USB key or SD-card
Procedure:
% ./configure && make && make install
[...]
% .grub-mkrescue --image-type=floppy rescue.img
[...]
# dd if=`pwd`/rescue.img of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=1M
1+1 records in
1+1 records out
1474018 bytes (1.5 MB) copied, 0.179898 s, 8.2 MB/s
Then boot on the SD-card using [F9] key.
The machine starts loads something & reboot (return on BIOS screen). No
error message is visible.
Troubleshooting:
It seems that this always happens when core.img includes an actual memdisk.
Whether the memdisk image is generated by "cpio -o" or "tar -cf" does not
change this.
Booting without an included memdisk image (without the -m parameter of
grub-mkimage) but with the memdisk, loopback & cpio modules works: It allows
to manually examine the memdisk image file content, which is Ok.
