Details:

Please apply the attached patch for 4.4.0 which fixes incorrect usage of
LDFLAGS instead of LIBS to pass libraries -- which breaks linking with
-Wl,--as-needed (as is by default in ALT Linux).

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #27672 (project xboard):

This has already been addressed in fix. Can you test the latest version from
git?

Instead of LIBS xboard_LDADD is used for this purpose.

Yeah, I believe this is fixed with commit
d5006ae60cce20324c3aaabbc73e0286c31d60c2.  Moved ALT Linux package build to
git-based gear (http://en.altlinux.org/Gear) btw.

Er, I consider this to be "invalid" only against git, not against even
4.4.1pre -- where it's "fixed". :)
