Hello NetCAT team,

I decided to satisfy NetCAT status report addicts Smile and try to distribute it at least via our web forum.

1. Overall summary

I don't know what was so motivating last week Wink but there was an obvious peak in activity. As for bugs it was probably the migration of IssueZilla and as for e-mails it was clearly the thread regarding highlighting of modified files with 42 posts. In average this resulted in ~9.6 submitted bugs and ~19.6 sent e-mails. Let's elaborate the feedback in more detail.

2. Important stuff

* I asked everyone for telling us what is most bothering at the moment and looking at the list [1] there is no consensus about the showstopper. Mainly Editor related issues were selected to the final 14. 3 bugs have been already fixed including #174557 which received 3 votes and 1 issue was invalid. Michael Bar-Sinai, there is no issue #287020. Do you want to update the Wiki page?

* In addition to that Lukas Hasik's team is eager to hear what you think about JavaFX plugins published on Update Center for NetBeans 6.8 Beta. We are disappointed that so far nobody responded to our call [2]. Claudio Rosati, Vaibhav Mishra or Constantin Drabo - did you evaluate the JavaFX support already?

* 12 NetCAT participants joined the discussion about highlighting of modified files. The thread was started by Niklas Matthies who wanted to have changed files marked with asterisk and not bold font as per new design (#175546). Although many people supported Niklas, command-line option to switch to 6.7 state exists and majority agrees this is only a minor UI change. "If we argue on such a topic, 6.8 is ready." closed Glenn Holmer. Smile

* NetBeans 6.8 comes with optimized scanning behavior during long VCS operations. Unfortunately, only Michel Graciano noticed the improvement and Niklas Matthies had some follow up questions and suggestions for enhancements. Does it mean that everybody else is satisfied? Smile

* David Salter complained that starting JBoss application server from IDE is way slower than doing the same from command-line (190s vs. 140s) - see #175504. It is even worse for Georg Schmid (89s vs. 16s). Georg thinks it's because of inefficient updating of server log. Can you guys attach required outputs to the issue?

* Stefan Wilfling noticed that status of JUnit tests sometimes displays incorrect information (#167429). He even attached a sample project so I removed INCOMPLETE keyword, marked the issue with [68cat] prefix and asked for new evaluation. Thanks Stefan!

* Franco Monsalvo discovered that "Go To File" dialog lists under some circumstances same results twice or even three times (#175776). This looks like an already known issue.

3. Bug hunting

* Neil Green confirmed that Subversion integration is not causing the abnormally long preparation for searching (#167152). We still don't have the promised heapdumps. Can you Neil upload them [3] and then link it from the issue? Thanks!

* Michel Graciano is fighting for better performance of GUI Editor which gets terribly slow when saving forms without fully qualified name imports (#175530). Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to this problem except turning that feature off. Sad

* Manuel Carrizo found a way to reproduce damaged IDE installation after updating development builds from the Update Center (#175853). Thanks to his comment we fixed the problem today.

* Glenn Holmer shed some more light on undesired reparsing of sources triggered during debugging session (#174668) by providing his log file. Editor team is still not sure about the cause. Can you please answer few more questions Glenn? Thanks a million!

* Goran Ehrsson's IDE deadlocked (#175520) after some editing Groovy files and going for a coffee. Unfortunately, we are at a loss. Goran, if you can reproduce this, please generate 10 FTDs with 1 second period and send us a specimen of the coffee beans! Wink

* Best bug reporter of the previous week was Niklas Matthies with 13 submitted issues.

* I encourage all NetCAT participants to add [68cat] prefix to old bugs reproducible in 6.8 builds, to close your invalid bugs and to ping developers by requesting status update in case of no activity for several weeks.

4. Statistics

Bugs submitted: 530 (+67)
Open bugs: 272 (6/16/208/38/4)
E-mails: 792 (+137)

Any ideas for the next status report? Let me know!

Best regards,
-Jirka
