Hi,

I've been browsing the NetCat 6.0 schedule on the Q&A webpage and found
this:

"October 22 - High Resistance mode"

What does it mean?

Best regards,
Luis Ramón

High Resistance period when only high priority bugs (P1, P2) can be fixed.

FYI, the schedule was recently updated:

http://wiki.netbeans.org/wiki/view/NB6Schedule

The new HR date is November 3rd.

So, if I understood correctly, from that point only P1/P2 issues will be
solved... but, should we still report any new issues we find even if
they are not showstoppers?

Yes please.  It is good to know about problems even if it is past the
cut-off where we can integrate the fixes.

Thanks,
George

Ok! Well, I guess that they could be fixed in newer revisions, so it was
a silly question ;)

Thanks again...

Yes, why not, all problems are worth to be noticed. They can be fixed
later probably for NetBeans 6.1 ... 7.0 or in a hotfix?

My 5 cents :-$

Hmm, there are lots of P3 bugs open. Shouldn't the date be pushed back
further?

We unfortunately can't fix all P1, P2 and even P3 bugs before releasing NetBeans 6.0. When planning 6.0 release we set up a Quality Criteria [1] that must be met for FCS.

[1] http://wiki.netbeans.org/wiki/view/NB6QualityCriteria

We believe that this is an ambitious while realistic goal in terms of quality. If we lower the total bug counts it would automatically postpone the release. Original planned FCS date was October 15th and already now it slipped to December 3rd (already 7 weeks delay) because of bug fixing problems. We can't do this forever.

Does it makes sense?

Yes, of course. On the other hand, I have the feeling (maybe you have
the corresponding statistics) that NB 6.0 beta has more bugs than NB 5.5
beta oder 5.0 beta had.

The netBeans website still mentions a November 2007 release for netBeans 6.0!! Since the FCS is December 3rd, does it mean that the release will now be sometime in Jan 2008 ??

Hello Saptarshi,

you are right that the information is incorrect. I will forward this to our webteam to fix it. Currently, the plan [1] is to release NetBeans 6.0 on December 3rd.

you are right but also don't forget to take into account how many features were added to NetBeans 6.0. For example count number of modules in 5.5 and compare the number with 6.0. Obviously, the more lines of code, the bigger chance to introduce a bug.

Exactly what I was going to mention... netBeans 6 has added so many features, that most people wouldnt mind any delays to make it stable.. I think all developers want netBeans to be stable so that they can enjoy the new features!! netBeans 6 completely rocks with all the great features!!

HI Jiri,
Developers and Managers need solid stable release add they don't mind any delays to make it stable.
True NetBeans add so many features but that is not count if we have open bugs release and those bugs making the feature unusable

Right. And I do not question this nor do I say that this is not
understandable. It's just a fact. The question is: Will you accept a
high number of bugs for a release?
