[scala] To all: the scala-announce list

All,

We have received some complaints about people posting replies and comments
to announcements on the scala-announce list, which apparently bothers some.

The scala-announce is intended only for the actual announcements: people
subscribe to it as a low-traffic stream, and are rarely, if ever,
interested in the related chatting.

Please, in the future direct your replies to the "scala" mailing list only.
If we get further complaints because of chatting on scala-announce, the
only option for us is moderating the list, and that would be very much an
inconvenience for everyone.

In a related note, there has also been a large amount of cross-posting on
the lists recently. Please try to avoid cross-posting if possible: if you
post to both scala and scala-user you basically reach the same people, and
bother everyone twice.

Thanks!
Toni

I'd like to suggest that all announcements contain a segment of your
message, so that anyone new or of short memory doesn't repeat the
mistake.

Just a suggestion: Maybe the mailing list software has an option to
set the Reply-To header for messages on the scala-announce list to
scala@.... That way simply using the reply feature of
common mail clients on a message in scala-announce would produce a
message to scala instead of scala-announce.

Ciao,
Thomas

This is a good idea; unfortunately we have little control over the mailing
list software, which is handled by a central service here at EPFL. I will
bug the sysadmins to see whether that can be arranged!
